Not surprising considering this shit is over 100 gigs
At least they aren't putting half the game on one disc and requiring you to download the rest. Getting real tired of publishers doing that shit these days.
Probably because it's cheaper for the company to have users download it rather than have 2 discs. I'd rather take 2 discs over 100+ gigabyte download any day.
How's this work, then? Does it need you to install it via one Bluray and the other one is just for playing?
Its okay, you get the 2 discs and a 50GB day one patch to download. (Cough Call of Duty, yes I know it didnt come with 2)
The game of the year edition of RDR 1 came with 2 discs as well. One had the singleplayer, the other had undead nightmare and multiplayer.
Yeah, probably like they did with GTA5 on oldgen
I am not looking forward to what this game is gonna do to my bandwidth
I cannot recall the last console game that required me to change disks? A GTA perhaps?
The last game I needed to change discs for was the Collector's Edition of TW3. The last console game that required me to change discs during gameplay was Chaos Theory on the Gamecube.
Metal Gear Solid on PS1 for me
Once you reach new areas or mount a certain type of horse, a text prompt will appear and ask you to switch discs.
oh god, i remember the pain staking wait downloading that when I was bunking off school to play it when it came through the door on release day
This would've been the case before the PS3/X360. Nowadays you just have to swap discs while installing it, just like on PC. You only use one disk for actually playing the game.
Only one I played was The Legend of the Dragoon on PS1 and that bastard had 4 disks
I haven't bought a console game on disk in so long.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgWrKRu-ry4 we've come full circle
Lmao I remember our copy of Riven for the PS1 having 5 discs and just being blown away by the sheer audacity of the developers.
I still have my original 5 PC discs for Riven. I'll never get rid of them.
they put those 5 discs to good use at least, that game is a masterpiece
Discs? U wot m8? haven't handled one of those things in a long time
It's not about the cost of the additional disc, thats dirt cheap in quantities like this. The huge day one patches at release are because devs are working with such tight deadlines nowadays that its impossible to have the whole game finished x weeks before release. So the "gold" version that gets sent out for printing is far from final, which means that a lot of data needs to be updated on release.
you can sell physical media when you are done with it. can't do that digitally.
I think I remember Code Veronica for the Dreamcast requiring a second disc for the second half of the game, that was my last one
I just reinstalled GTA5 the other day for PC, had a physical copy. Son of a bitch came in on 7 DVD discs, plus 30GB+ in patching after the physical install. On one hand I don't have a bluray drive for my computer, so that's good, but on the other hand Rockstar made RDR2 from the ground up for this generation of hardware, so it's not surprising that they've made something as big as or bigger than GTAV.
Shenmue I & II for the Dreamcast had 4 disks. It's pretty incredible how big games are nowadays.
The last multi-disk game I remember is Final Fantasy 13 for the Xbox 360. That was in 2010, and it had 3 disks (of hallways).
Mass Effect 2 required changing disks while playing on 360, aside from that i remember Driver 2 (ps2) had two or three discs.
A couple of days old, but: https://twitter.com/PressStartKofi/status/1053322748775227392 Just in case there was any doubt/confusion.
