eBay is obsolete. Their website is clunky and tools are clunky and dated. Even if their top sellers were poached through eBay's messaging system, they wouldn't have been poached in the first place unless Amazon was legitimately better.
I usually go between both but I find myself on Ebay the most.
i can find actual antiques and other such things on ebay, cant find them on amazon.
ebay is so much better for used goods
in fact it's so much better for buyers that sellers feel like they're being neglected because ebay sides with the buyer in the vast majority of disputes
Bullshit. Amazon has always been extremely unreliable. Most things won't ship to where I live.
For the longest time, Amazon wouldn't even TELL you whether a thing would ship to where you live, the only way to find out was to actually attempt to order it, and then they'd tell you after you attempt the transaction.
Was really fun trying to buy 10 variants of the same item in hopes that one would ship.
eBay never had this problem.
What a dumb statement, they're entirely different beats, Amazon is a storefront while eBay is mainly an online auction house. The only thing they've potentially poached off eBay is the big sellers who list up new goods on premium listings with buy it now prices (essentially eBay's equiv of a storefront).
I have personally noticed this over the years with certain large independant computer stores moving over to Amazon for their product listings instead of using their eBay storefront. In a way I can't blame them though, to get a store front on eBay you have to go through a loophole of fees and "premium" services while with Amazon its a simple online application and that's it. The fees are even less than eBay's which is honestly what's killing it. eBay needs to get their act together with their fees before they can honestly bitch about a retail competitor doing one of their niche's better than the other, especially when the competitor's main focus is based upon something they do on the side and isn't their main focus.
eBay for anything used or custom is so much better. I hate buying used, so I don't go there often, however its extremely solid for 3D printed goods etc.
There is so much shit that I either can't buy outside Ebay for my car or if I try, it comes with a 50% markup on amazon / thirdparty sites.
Yeah Amazon UK is amazing as well, their next day delivery has nearly always been next day and they go out of their way if it isn't.
Usually when the promised next day doesn't go through its due to a 3rd party seller and every time its happened I've got compensation for it.
I use both.
eBay because cheap, cheap, CHEAP!
Amazon because "Dammit I need this part yesterday! D:"
Yeah ebay is pretty much a necessity for auto parts. Especially for older parts no longer in production or sold through the OEM for stupid outrageous prices.
eBay's great because you can find all kinds of neat shit that Amazon wouldn't carry in a hundred years.
Well no shit
Most people don't live in the US
Also computer parts have way better sorting and categories available.
If Amazon's computer part section had NewEgg's sorting options, it would be grand.
You people should all move into the US tbh, free shipping!
I want to die
Yeah, Amazon's part filters are pretty ass. I've mostly just pushed any searching to pcpartpicker, maybe a manual search for a specific part to double check pricing and availability.
Ebay actually doesn't want antiques and other things on their store. They've been pushing more and more over the years to only have brand new things, and to act as a hub for stores like Bestbuy.
One is a borderline monopoly, the other is not. Do we really want to go down that road again? Amazon is becoming too big, and coordinated poaching like this is definitely anti-competitive.
Do you have a source stating that they don't?
because so far then to me it seems they've done an awful job if that is the case.
Ebay are greedy, 10 percent plus PayPal fees and buyer always wins against seller in a dispute.
