Worth every penny
Looks like those people are having a pretty good time playing around with about a million cash.
But, where are his eyelashes
Used them all to knit a sweater.
So when does it shred itself?
I mean we all know that modern art auction is a front for money laundering

Would've been funnier if it was Bold and Brash instead. https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/spongebob/images/f/f2/Oldbash.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170724203516
Too bad it got thrown in the trash
I didn't know this that. Is there some criminal conspiracy element to this.. Spongebob painting being sold?
More like "belongs in my ass" hahaha
not gonna lie, when I first saw that meme I couldn't stop laughing
Ah, the endless hilarity of people selling art for stupid amounts of money because some people have more money than sense. https://youtu.be/oRIyw-pJkUk
Entering this thread I hoped with my whole being that the painting would be a reproduction of this https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/017/700/mFqSE.jpg

Oh right, this is Kaws. He does this shit all the time. https://sc02.alicdn.com/kf/HTB14.qbRpXXXXcvaXXXxh4dFXXX6/China-Manufacturer-Kaws-Sculpture-Companion-Passing-Through.jpeg_640x640.jpeg
This kind of covers it. Not to say all Modern Art is, but generally the buying of selling is related to rich people trying to avoid taxes. https://youtu.be/Dw5kme5Q_Yo
KAWS makes cool shit but this price is absolutely wild.
How can I draw some dumb shit and have someone pay a million for it. I sure could use the money tbh
It's all about convincing people it's worth the price you're selling it for
As someone who participates in the "art community", these auctions are the most absurd and disencouraging thing. The fact is that they are completely a sham and as mentioned - a money laundering scheme - but moreso they really aid in the separation of contemporary art and the general public. Art doesn't have to be for the elite but the market really turns something which was likely made with a statement in mind, into nothing more than sexy commodities or status symbols. It's very ironic considering most active artists are supposedly "anti-capitalist". While 99.9% of all living artists will never be able to sell at an auction like this, these markets really perpetuate the idea that art is a scam for the rich, which is really sad because there's so much beautiful and interesting stuff out there.
Someone also thought this picture was worth €3,000 https://www.sothebys.com/buy/90c52a12-e560-4401-8010-7b9543c46b72/lots/7415dcba-8a0e-4433-94e0-71513c5ead24 https://cdn.media-desk.sothebys.psdops.com/dims4/default/b292e02/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1368x2000+0+0/resize/1024x1497!/quality/90/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.media-desk.sothebys.psdops.com%2F5b%2F96%2Fc6b479a94de282df58ff821d4bbc%2Fpf1898-9w7hb-01.jpg
Spend several years building a mythology surrounding your self-image and background, insert yourself into institutions, write some essays or have someone write essays about you. Write a manifesto, get to know the right people, become a symbol for some ideology or movement and then you're all set. When it comes to these crude drawings it's more about the "history" surrounding the drawing than the drawing itself. Kinda like how you could probably sell one of Abraham Lincolns pube collections on Ebay for loads of cash, but nobody would buy your personal stash of pubes.
That is totally worth 3,000 what are you on about??
I added sanic memes as custom emojis on my company's slack. Then I added this guy and a coworker assumed that it was another stupid sanic meme, not a piece of high art which sold at auction for 3,000 euros
where is the art it's literally just spongebob with x eyes
