Hello everyone think this is cool idea for rust. if it was a floor piece which you put in floor frame or a foundation piece running on low grade to pump dry buildings it opens up sea bases, lake bases, sea bed quarrys and oil derrick on sea bed.
Interesting suggestion but there's a big issue here. The water in Rust isn't exactly removable, as it's a single object so to speak. The issue is the same as making the ground mine-able, it was never meant to be removed, only spawned in as a static part of the environment, even if rather randomly in the procedural maps. The case with water is, there's two types of liquids in game, ground_zero water and river_water. Your interaction with them is the same, but the way they spawn is different. In any case, the river water is like a randomly generated (procedural maps) road in which you can dive, and has multiple effects on the player. Ocean water, so to speak, is like a coded layer in game, literally says: In level 0 and below, spawn ground_zero_water. Just another "rock" layer you can move through, and this includes those lakes. In pre-generated maps the coding is the same, they just added it there, quite literally.
I don't think it's impossible, but it's enough work for a major update, this is why I warn you: Don't count on it.
Long story short: Rust was never meant to have a voxel map. Changing it now is unrealistic, so this will probably never be a thing in the foreseeable future.
I agree, I have always wanted tha ability to remove rocks that are in the way of placing foundations or high external walls but it would very hard to
program the removal of rocks and soil, The same would apply to the construction of dams or removal of water from a specific area,
Would love to be able to flatten ground or remove rocks but i think that the programming would be way to difficult to implement over such a large area
