Something something but he held the flag
Can we define the GOP as a hate group at this point?
Everyone of you people that supported Trump largely on the baseline of trans/gay rights is a fucking idiot lmao
Great way to piss off the country even more, attack even more minorities.
Because of course they will. The GOP are quite literally the bad guys

At the absolute best they lose about 50 seats in the House and lose four in the Senate, now matter how bad they become they're still the other party in the two party system. Maybe the party will collapse when the orange is gone but I doubt it.

I genuinely can't fathom why they would do this. I can't imagine having power, and then using it to oppress people for the sheer sport of it. People like to talk about how ~ both sides are bad~ and how the political divisions in the America right now are on the heads of everyone involved- but I can't take that shit seriously when one side just gratuitously shits on whole groups of people for no fucking reason.
Because Obama's admin expanded the definition. And a lot of conservatives likely view transgender people as as bad or worse then pedophiles.
Anyone who dares say that both parties are the same can sincerely fuck off, one side is for treating people like human beings and with respect, and the other side is trying to litigate people different to them out of existence to stay on top of the pile. Fucking disgusting.
This Seriously, can an enlightened centrist please explain what minority group the democrats would attempt to do this to? Is there anything even remotely similar on their agenda?
To a large chunk of voters the parties are pretty much the same, they don't see or don't care about stuff like this
Mr. Severino, while serving as the head of the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at the Heritage Foundation, was among the conservatives who blanched at the Obama administration’s expansion of sex to include gender identity, which he called “radical gender ideology.” After more than a year of discussions, health and human services is preparing to formally present the new definition to the Justice Department before the end of the year, Trump administration officials say. If the Justice Department decides that the change is legal, the new definition can be approved and enforced in Title IX statutes, and across government agencies. But Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s previous decisions on transgender protections have given civil rights advocates little hope that the department will prevent the new definition from being enforced. The proposal appears consistent with the position he took in an October 2017 memo sent to agencies clarifying that the civil rights law that prohibits job discrimination does not cover “gender identity, per se.” The department would have to decide what documentation schools would be required to collect to determine or codify gender. Title IX applies to a number of educational experiences, such as sports and single-sex classes or programs where gender identity has come into play. The department has said it will continue to open cases where transgender students face discrimination, bullying and harassment, and investigate gender-based harassment as “unwelcome conduct based on a student’s sex” or “harassing conduct based on a student’s failure to conform to sex stereotypes.” What happened? Why is this happening? And why do I feel a continued sense of no agency? The people that can change things and they decide to change everything into a goddamn mess. I feel like a non-person in my own home and now I get to feel it in an entire country too if this thing goes through?
He can classify his disapproval ratings as mythical, that won't make it go down. I sincerely hope Dems take back at least one house of government so they can turn the next two years of Trump's life into an extremely, excruciatingly slow motion nut shot.
Inb4 posters saying FP is a hivemind for thinking this is bad
Move to Canada if you can afford to. If you can't, I'm really sorry. I wish there was something I could do to help as a foreigner.
A transgender woman, Christine Hallquist is the Democrat candidate for governor of Vermont. If Hallquist wins the federal government won't acknowledge one of the state governors for what they are.
I don't get why or...how they can just think they need to change a word's definition.
This is why I say we need an objective measure. I wasn't trying to say both parties are equally as bad as the other. The GOP pulls shit like this constantly. Of course, Republicans would argue that Democrats are fascists for forcing people by law to comply with non-discriminatory principles, but the two things are far from equal.
The Trump administration is considering a legal definition of gender as immutable and fixed at birth. That's not wrong though, the issue is that the assigned gender is assumed based on sex, which is only 99.6% accurate. That leaves 0.6 people who are assigned the wrong gender because their gender doesn't match their sex. That's literally transgender people, they don't change genders, just the one they were assigned is incorrect in the first place.
As an outsider I've always been fucking baffled as to how one side can get 'regular' people voting for them when the entire GOP has always been pushing from taking rights away from people, treating other races like shit, while also objectively funding stuff that hurts the environment and makes relationships with other nations worse. All the while overtly making it harder for themselves to get voted out by arbitrarily taking away people's ability to vote, or making up bullshit boundaries so that they win areas even though they're actually losing.
I feel like we have a an "abusive dad and enabler mom" situation. Mom can be a sweetheart but if she cant get her kids out of that situation then it's not unfair to say she's bad at her job on some level. Intent only goes so far... To be clear, I'm not suggesting that dems are bad but rather pointing out where people are coming from. The GOP is obviously pushing for fascism so anytime a democrat (appears to) fumble the situation it's easy to find yourself thinking "Monsters have power right now and are growing, you need to be better."
For the last year, health and human services has privately argued that the term “sex” was never meant to include gender identity or even homosexuality, and that the lack of clarity allowed the Obama administration to wrongfully extend civil rights protections to people who should not have them. The term 'sex' is just so nebulous that the rights should have been codified with much more explicit language like gender identity or expression a long time ago. This is a vulnerability being exploited that is near-identical to the one that Jordan Peterson argued we should have kept in Canadian law. On another level this is class war because who can afford to have a DNA test if they do decide anything there makes you trans.
"Hey these people just minding their own business being who they feel like doesn't affect me in anyway. I should do everything in my power to crush them and make their lives as miserable as possible"
GOP operates purely off brainwashing mainly using religion, and the US is chock full of religious fanatics
"Syrian law bad. Christian sharian law good because WE worship the RIGHT god"
I'm leaving this hellrock as soon as I'm out of college.
Oh, I imagine it'd get a lot worse than that. I expect it'll become "On second thought, those Syrians have the right idea."
