The unadulterated TF2 experience has to be pretty nice.
Tons of unpatched exploits and nothing but 2fort.
Ah, the good old days.
I wanna see L4D2 enhanced looks like. I mean yeah I play maxed out but I'm still curious
OG TF2 Console Exclusive.
EA will shut down a game after 4 years yet Valve will keep one up that has largely remained dormant for 11 years.
Every time I boot TF2 on Xbox I get a match. Always.
Nonetheless, it hasn't ever had content updates and I still can't imagine the community being very big anyway.
TF2 on Xbox is people use engi teleported glitch to get into walls every match, and doing taunts over and over with the other team in the wall.
It's a nice bit of nostalgia for sure
Valve suddenly recoils in horror at someone else officially acknowledging anything they'd made pre-DotA 2.
"Exerting effort... no endless mountains of money anywhere... I CAN'T GO BACK, MAN!"
To comfort themselves, they would unleash an additional deluge of loot crate series into Steam TF2 later that night.
Remember when Valve considered adding the class updates to Xbox 360?
Meanwhile something like 11 years later MS finally gets it. Games can get updates constantly (see Overwatch) and they FINALLY made the Halo 3 and Reach DLC permanently free earlier this year. I bet if Valve reached out they could totally make all the DLC free.
Because shutting down the servers would require someone to actually do something.
Let the TF2 exploits commence!
The Jelly-Hopping one was fun as you could explore the otherwise hidden parts of the map with friends.
I think patches had size limits. Like just a few dozen MB's. It was only condusive toward small bugfixes or improvements, not actual feature expansions. Which may have been because of consoles that only had memory cards, like 256 MB. Too large and you effectively blacklist anyone that doesn't have the higher end console.
Valve isn't keeping anything up; the 360 versions of these games are P2P and rely entirely on Xbox Live for matchmaking. Valve actually abandoned these versions many years ago.
A bunch of console games have P2P systems that allow them to work long after they're dead, and some console games even have the option to host your own dedicated server (e.g. Warhawk)
I rememeber being told that deploying updates to xbox live cost money from developers
I remember they tried charging pc gamers for online multiplayer in games that utilized Games for windows live. It quickly backfired and just abandoned the pc scene altogether for a few years. Halo 2 was abandoned almost immediately after being launched.
That shitty leadership didn't change until the disastrous start for the Xbox one.
I still think its crazy that 10 years ago, MS was very anti-consumer in their practices toward gaming. Proprietary USB memory cards and HDD's were pretty bad. Fortunately it seems they have made an about face. I would have never guessed that MS would allow you to buy a game once and play it on Xbox and PC, as well as making them cross platform. As well as family sharing.
It's a shame TF2 is so easy to cheat on on these versions. If I recall the PS3 version has sv_cheats enabled by default, so you can just go into any server and use god and no clip. However, it has led to some interesting developments. If I recall, someone was creating a Payload recreation totally out of ent_fire and other similar commands. Absolutely nuts. Also, due to the way the Orange Box worked on console, you could load up Half Life or Portal maps in TF2, which was neat.
Here's a video of the aforementioned Payload mode:

It's funny because the current state of TF2 right now would probably be really successful on console.
Well, for once there's actually a chance of finding someone playing Hydro.
Still pretty sad that somehow Microsoft is treating Valve's great franchises with more respect than Valve.
Whats there not to love?
Sincerely,
