If Hollywood is the real monster, is Harvey Weinstein gonna be in this?
Xenojiiva
It's done by Paul WS Anderson, not sure why anyone is expecting it to be watchable.
They're gonna call all the guns lances and you know it.
how do we make this https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/monsterhunter/images/3/3b/MVCI_Female_Monster_Hunter.png/revision/latest?cb=20180320235134 more interesting for the general audience? "I GOT IT!" yeah, I expected nothing and I was still let down.
Paul W. S. Anderson is directing. There never was any hope in the first place.
Of course it's a boring tacticool gun on top of that as well.
I don't even play MH and I know that outside the monsters designs, the armor and weapon design are what's most iconic about the series. Paul WS Anderson to his crew : Give me the most generic military dude ever.
Cant wait for all that US military techwank Thanks for nothing Hollywood
It'll be a shot for shot remake of that awful sem-recent Godzilla movie. Boring generic military white dudes doing nothing being completely ineffectual against monsters who don't care about them.
Monster Hunter would work better as a movie than Resident Evil since the games barely have a story but an interesting world. Just write some fun fantasy adventure movie based around the lore and monsters, don't do the dumb "it's in the real world now" thing. It's not that hard!
Paul W.S Anderson, desert scenario, generic military dudes. Now we just need the shit monster designs.
Jesus.. I was hoping for something decent, but this will be a steaming pile of shit.
So did anyone actually read the article? The film is supposedly a crossover between worlds, with the monsters arriving via portals, and the film is supposed to go to the Monster Hunter world. Don't be surprised if these military guys end up meeting and teaming up with Greatsword-wielding hunters to stop the invasions. And what's with the aversion to guns? Bowguns have been a staple weapon in the series for a long time now, and a bunch of them are tacticool and like to omit the "bow" part. Like, I've got no doubt this movie will be awful, but this isn't really a drastic idea for a movie.
It's not drastic, it's painfully generic. Bowguns are quirky and strange so they fit right in with the fun, over the top nature of Monster hunter. This is just generic Hollywood action guns like the AUG you see in the pic. Also the Crossover between worlds so that Sgt. Marshall can be an American hero is also generic, it could have been set in Monster hunter's world so the film could explore it a bit.
Lmao his wife Milla Jovovich is in it. Like is that the only thing she can do, just get casted into the lead roles of all her husband's movies.
Yeah I did especially, and I still think Anderson could do better than this. The reason why everyone here hates this is because it's a waste of potential, Anderson isn't even making the attempt to be creative or even innovative with the film which makes it dreadful. The only reason anyone would even enjoy the film would be because it's joke worthy (it's so bad it's good). If it's not then there is no reason to even see it unless you like colorful lights and effects, which is not the only reason people often go to watch movies. Magic Portals are a very exhausted subject, there is no way to explain them in reality so they are just convenient plot devices which is why people don't like it as it's extremely predictable. Anderson has a lot of other movies who he has to surpass in order to be noteworthy (Unless he just wants to profit off being a joke worthy director). We've got better movies to waste money on and this doesn't sound like one of those movies.
I'm expecting Milla Jovovich to play another mary sue in this movie.
RATHALOS EVERYWHE-- oh wait, designs, nevermind
Is anyone else disappointed that this isn't an in-concept-only adaptation of the part in Peace Walker where Snake goes to Monster Island and fights a Rathalos?
xeno'jiiva is a poor baby who doesn't deserve such slander
I know right? They could have at least used the handheld king tiger: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110703/8465921a-d93e-4cdd-a734-f34929e29c79/Weapon305.png
So basically it's gonna be a Hollywood action kaiju blockbuster that basically reuses designs and has nothing else in common. Even Resident Evil got fucking retardedly weird enough that China loved it, but this? Not so sure.
And the best/worst part is: I totally expect them to somehow butcher the monster designs as well.
Yeah cause these literal cannons are comparable to a dinky assault rifle.

So he's given a fantasy world to work with, and the first thing he does is throw it out and substitute the real world? Guy must have absolutely no imagination whatsoever.
The real Paul WS Anderson died after the first Mortal Kombat movie.
Credit to Paul where it's due, he does get the looks and designs right, and if it weren't for turning everything into a super action bombastic fanfiction with his wife in the starring role, they had the elements and such there for some actual adaptations. It's just he's also a fucking weirdo that thinks emulating Michael Bay on an almost Uwe Boll level is a great idea, and happens to have his stuntmen go through excessively dangerous stunts that have gotten people maimed and maybe even killed.
