If you want to get really technical about it, Lucifer aka "the Devil" is actually just a misunderstood angel. He was cast out of heaven because he pissed God off and forced to deal with keeping all of the bad souls in check.
In a certain way, God is the evil one and Lucifer is the hero because God forgives but Lucifer dishes out punishment.

Him forgiving isn't the bad thing, it's just what was in my head at the time for whatever reason.
It's the constant trials on his followers (basically the entire Old Testament) that show that he isn't benevolent.
It's really not hard to reinterpret things in the bibble to make it seem like God's a prick, or at least very flawed, and Lucifer is the reason we're so dang smart. Most of this has to do with how vague some of the descriptions are, or how the bibble was written at a time where moral values were extremely different, but still.
From what I can find, though, most modern Luciferians, Satanists, Devil Worshippers, etc. are nontheistic, so all that probably doesn't matter to them.
