Pretty sure we all mostly stand the same on this issue. If they can make the cut, then so be it.
Girls had an ultra tough time passing some of those rigorous as fuck military tests.
Can't wait for the very first SAS-y independent black woman.
are you kidding of course they won't ne

ok UK high command
Why not ?
This is a shitty off the cuff comment but to be honest I'm expecting it.
Reason being is the standards for the special forces are already incredibly demanding for men as it is, for women it's going to be a nightmare. IIRC testosterone helps with muscle growth and a man has something like 3 times the amount in comparison to your average woman?
I hope I'm proven wrong but I'm not expecting a lot of women to pass the bar. It'll look embarrassing on the government for few women to actually pass so they may adjust the tests for figures. I believe they did something like this for the US Marines.
Feel free to roast me into citation hell if I should stand corrected.
Was tried in the US Marines At boot camp, 3 out of 4 women fail to meet combat standards
The SAS has a more grueling training than that. Also (excuse Muh Daily Mail) but in 2017 the British Army did this:
Army fitness tests to be re-written to make sure female soldiers can qualify for combat roles.
Yeah you're thinking of when we did Infantry Officer and Mix-Gendered Combat unit studies.
If you want to skip a whole lot of words, it was basically stated that females were almost completely unable to finish the IOC course as well performed very poorly compared to the males. That being said I've met plenty of female Marines who are absolute studs at PT,Their Job,etc, but even when you have women who exceed their standard, they cannot meet a standard that is set for men. There's a whole lot of details to why this occurs a lot, hell even our gear isn't suited for women to use properly due how different their bone structure is, for example if female Marines have to hike long distance with an LBE pack, they have to flip the waiststrap upside down so it won't cause too much wait to rest on their hips and make it less likely to cause an injury.
The New Zealanders also allow Women into their SAS, but according to Wikipedia, none have made it in yet.
You say this, but despite what some may say, when I was doing my training in ATR Winchester, our troop was told pretty bluntly by three of our Corporals that women are treated differently in both training and active service. It ain't right, but there it is.
So how are they supposed to drag a potentially wounded soldier (male in this case) weighing his body mass and the equipment on him to safety, if they haven't gone through the same levels of fitness tests they won't be able to surely?
Stop thinking logically...
For real this sucks - a lot of women are going to be killed because of some political points. Their choices though, I'm sure they're well aware of it all.
Hopefully the MoD will deploy squads with women in lower risk areas then, if they can't pull their weight and another... Well that isn't the SAS.
My Cousin is annoyed by this, he is ex-SAS and said he wouldn't want his life depending on a woman. Not due to her abilities to fight, but "proven physical limitations". I don't know what to think of this personally, standards shouldn't be lowered. Supposed to be the best of the best.
ya this is understated everytime this debate comes up. the military standards out there have been exhaustively developed exclusively for men, and most men don't even have the body to pass them. The US military has spent hundreds of billions over the years studying everything to improve male soldier training and standards they need to meet, we're at the beginning in terms of what women can do and what standards they need to meet, it doesn't mean they're worse soldiers or unfit, these tests have been massively optimized for men and that might be impossible for a woman to pass if they were forced to do the exact same regiment in the exact same way as they would be fighting against their bodies and not using their strengths to the best.
The bigger story is that women can serve in any combat role, not just the SAS, and whilst the infantry demand high levels of fitness it's more achievable than passing selection.
It's also worth pointing out the UK already has women in the Special Forces as part of the Special Reconnaissance Regiment.
Have you ever met a Marine.
Most Marines hardly meet 'combat standards'
you'd be surprised, plenty of guys in my unit with guts who don't look remotely athletic but they're still hitting 300 CFTs and high 1st class PFTs
the Marine Corps does have an issue with overweight women though, not helped by the fact that the new standards reward being weaker and slower with a higher score
afaik this has happened in every branch of the US military, can't imagine it'd be much different across the pond
Yeah sure you have the hard chargers who are overweight as fuck and still manage it but there are so many Marines who get through training or stay in because someone looks the other way for them.
yyyeah alright I can agree with that
we should go back to the good ol days, where the only rule was no fatties
Nothing wrong with this as long as they meet the standard. The standard is a standard to make sure people don't die, so it's not something that should be changed unless absolutely necessary.
First of all, you don't need to be a top athlete to lift a body, and dragging one is even easier. Due to my workplace I get to see exercises happen frequently and trust me when I say that a woman has absolutely zero problem picking up another person and shoving them into a stretcher if need be.
Second, the situations where you have to drag a soldier to safety are few and far between, especially in the case of SAS. If someone is hurt and you're in a (possibly illicit) operation way out in the middle of nowhere with hostiles on your ass you are not going to carry them with you, it's far more likely the best course of action will be to hide them somewhere safe and retrieve them later when the coast is clear.
Being a soldier is a physical job, sure, but it doesn't require hulking strength and overwhelming power either. You need to have endurance and be in good health, and special operations are often more about force of will than raw power.
More meat for the grinder 💪
And those marines aren't in combat MOSs. Get a clue.
Did not think about hiding the wounded, that actually clears it up. Pretty shit if you hid them in a terrible place though
SAS does get in some ugly situations though I remember reading a story when they were driving around in truck/suv in Libya or somewhere like that and they all got executed
I am wondering though of this will reach the submariners, unless that rule has been changed already, I hear women can't be underwater in a sub for extended periods of time because they can go a little crazy
mfw
Have you ever met fat fuck infantry Marines?
Even then, they run the same PFT and CFT, and even if they like to pretend otherwise, they get hazed just as hard as some other units. Don't be motarded, there are plenty of fat infantry Marines.
