Could had been other factors, even mentioned pickled food and red meat in the article.
shoulda used his noodle
Makes me think about my soda addiction...
I drank soda constantly through my teenage years. A couple of months after i stopped, one of my family told me that the color had returned to my face and that i no longer looked grey.
Soda must cause a lot of damage if it made me look like a zombie.
Honestly soda is probably one of the worst dietary habits overall. Whenever someone is trying to lose weight I always recommend just cutting soda out completely, because that alone depending on their daily consumption is a massive step forward to improving their health.
It's okay to drink soda once in a while, but if someone is drinking what amounts to 2-liters a day they need to stop.
Yeah, as silly as it is, soda pop's addicting as fuck just from the caffeine in some of it. Been addicted to it ever since I could hold a cup.
Try to get your kids to try new things because I am unhealthy as fuck. I'm not even a fat blob, but I basically have little to no muscle and I'm 24.
Soda is weak as fuck in caffeine compared to coffee, so I really don't see it just being the caffeine, otherwise you could just switch to tea and be fine.
I only have soda every once in a while when I'm eating out with friends and I'm not having a beer. Now if I want something fizzy I drink kombucha.
Down nearly 60 lbs.
I drank probably on average 4-5 coca colas, per day, from the age of about 13 to 28. I don't have any side effects (That I'm aware of). No pains, no cancer, no weight, and I don't look any better now than I did when I drank them. Then again I've always looked like I have cancer so that's not saying much. I've had maybe 20 coca colas in the last 5 years, though. I'm a water guy now. Feel no different. But I know my pancreas is happy and I'm not going to get diabetes early, so that's a plus
I've never liked soda/fizzy drinks, always preferred diluted blackcurrant. When I've tried flat cola it just tastes like water saturated with sugar.
Only 6, not half a dozen?
Caffeine has pretty nasty W/D effects which makes it hard to quit, alongside it being in lots of stuff.
Cutting out sugary drinks is also a great motivation check, if people can successfully make that lifestyle change they will have little problem making other changes (healthier diet, increased exercise etc)
My social circle began referring to soda as "death juice" or "drink that kills you" and as a direct result every single one of us eventually stopped drinking it even semi regularly
A bit weird to focus on a single case like this. Sure his dietary habits were awful but cancer is so random you can't really draw a direct causation.
I had a similar case, mostly just parents willing to buy it for you so you have no reason to stop. Nowadays I drink maybe 2 or 3 cans a week at best. The best part about water is it doesn't go flat and even at room temperature it isn't that bad.
Drank 6 colas a day for four years (approx 2 liters). Gained 20kgs in weight, became pre-diabetic. I was on my way to death because my liver had started to accrue fat as well. Ditched the cola, switched to zero sugar. Picked up a healthier diet and lost 15kgs in half a year.
Don't drink 6 colas a day.

There's a difference between water and food filled with preservatives and who knows what else.
We're not exactly talking about healthy and natural food here.
I'm saying that these post hoc explanations for why people get cancer is just silly.
Sometimes there's something that causes cancer that's not just the human body fucking up.
Not saying it could have been the diet, but it could have played a huge part.
It's very likely genetical or completely random. If instant noodles truly were the cause and only a few years of eating it caused instant terminal cancer, we'd see many many more dead people around.
He was super young too, so it suggests it's likely genetical. This type of cancer mostly hits old people.
18 yo? Hell that's awful.
His extreme working habits could have contributed to it. Constant all nighters is terrible for you and ruins your health.
Hopefully it's an issue with instant noodles sold in that country, not all over the world. I've never heard of them being linked to cancer risks. Eating the same thing everyday is never a good idea but still that's extreme.
just start drinking water. I had a health scare and stopped, I only drink pop like once in a while.
Speak for yourself, I drink La Croix every day. Water is peasant juice
How much do instant noodles (as heterogeneous as that group of food is) increase the risk of stomach cancer? Did this kid have any genetic mutations predisposing him to stomach cancer? What else was he exposed to? We don't know jack shit about this case, and even then, few cancers just scream "exposure".
The only justification you have for the "huge part" is a doctor in the article that - in general terms - is telling people to reduce their in-take of instant noodles and other processed foods.
Just drink seltzer water.
Pretty much same here (probably started 13ish as well, 25 now and still going) - I did switch from regular Coke to Coke Zero / Pepsi Max at around 20 and lost like ~5kg although I've never had any issues from it either, been around 70kg the whole time too. It's like 40 cents a can if you buy them in bulk.
la croix tastes like someone drank a lot of juice then burped in your mouth.
See in Australia we call seltzer Soda water so reading everyone talking about how soda was making them fat was briefly very confusing because I slam like 3 litres of that shit a day and am not fat.
Certain flavors remind me more of toothpaste. The first time I tried it, the only thing I could compare it to was whenever I'd sometimes accidentally swallow some toothpaste during brushing, particularly childrens' toothpaste.
la croix is fucking gross
