• Rust loading times & RAM usage (optimization)

Hi, I have a few concerns about the insane loading times and high RAM usage that I experienced as a returning Rust player. The game process uses around 5-6GB at all times, this ain't a problem with my 8GB RAM and 7GB paging file (miraculously) because once the game is fired up and running, it can last for hours without stability issues or lag. However, the process of booting up/getting onto (official) servers is annoyingly slow, my specs: AMD FX-8350 Octa-core (8 core) CPU ATI R9 290 4GB GPU SSD with 550 mb/s read and write (honestly, the game isn't on the SSD) AX1200i PSU 8 GB performance RAM Watercooling and military-grade components As you can see, my PC is a true gaming PC and engineered to take quite something, by balancing my components to eachother back when I built it. I can run any game perfectly, and as I said, also Rust. With a PC like this, having such long loading times even with "Potato" graphics settings, is unimaginable. Besides that, the average RAM usage of the game tells a tale about the state of optimization. Others have been complaining about that for a long time (high RAM usage), this game demands even more than physics sandbox applications. I know that my message will probably be ignored by those that can actually do something, because you got your own studio development goals and you likely are aware, but anyone who has played the game for a while can realise it's just awful in this perspective and may individually be a deterrent to playing/interfere with enjoying the game. I clap hands every time as soon I am in, but I will decide to play Rust less often because I know that to enjoy a few hours of gameplay, I'd have to wait a long time. Also, as I am writing this I am stuck at "Receiving data" after ~ 25 mins of loading.. thought that was almost it but nah
So would 16gb ram
WOW, I have an i3 3220 with AMD Radeon R9 200 series (3GB) with a 3840 paging file and 16gb ram and mine takes about 5.5 minutes to get to the server list. Lucky I dont have a "gaming" computer
I load the server list in about 35 seconds, joining a server however can take 2-4 mins
Is there a reason I can’t even join the game because it crashes every time I try to load into server, even though I have a computer that meets all the requirements?
Your RAM is at the absolute bare minimum for requirements, and if you've joined servers with mods or add-ons in the past its just going to clog it up and cause it to overflow and crash. You can try allocating more of your RAM to rust, or add more RAM. I'd also put the game on your SSD.
If you google Rust ram requirements you get this: OS: Windows 10 64bit. Processor: 3 ghz. Memory: 16 GB RAM. Graphics: Nvidia GTX 980. DirectX: Version 12. Network: Broadband Internet connection. Hard Drive: 10 GB available space.
