SANTA FE – A case of Carol Miller confusion has struck again. The Carol Miller who lives in northern New Mexico and has run for Congress as a Green Party candidate recently got a
$2,000 contribution from U.S. Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, who apparently meant to send the money to a different Carol Miller – a West Virginia Republican who supports President
Donald Trump.
The mix-up comes three months after the New Mexico Carol Miller got a separate contribution – of $5,000 – from U.S. Vice President Mike Pence’s political committee in a similar case
of mistaken identity.
The New Mexico Carol Miller, who lives in Ojo Sarco and has advocated for universal health care, ran for northern New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District seat in 1997 on the Green
Party ticket in a special election to succeed Bill Richardson, who had been appointed U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. She ran again for Congress in 2008 as an independent,
but her congressional campaign account was closed years ago.
As such, Miller said she plans to void the recent $2,000 check and send it back to Granger, along with a letter encouraging the 11-term incumbent from the Fort Worth area to make a
donation to the nonprofit Ojo Sarco Community Center.
And she said the irony of the second check, which she provided a picture of to the Journal, being sent to the wrong account is that she actually supports West Virginia Carol Miller’s
Democratic opponent, Richard Ojeda.
“Rather than using money to help people in need in her district, she is sending it around so willy-nilly that $2,000 found its way to the wrong Carol Miller,” she said, referring to Granger.
After receiving the previous contribution from Pence’s PAC, New Mexico Miller sent the check on to West Virginia Miller, along with a letter urging all Carol Millers in the nation to
support Ojeda.
In all, Granger has accumulated $860,000 in her campaign account and has been using much of her campaign funds to help other Republican congressional candidates nationwide,
according to a recent McClatchy report. Her campaign did not respond Wednesday to a request for comment.
