To sumaraize:
- Emulation
- Homebrew game ports (Doom etc)
- Backup saves locally
- Theme support
- Change Font and Joycon attach sound byte
- Install physical games
- Media Player
- Play games from external HDD
- Overclocking the Switch for better performance
- Cheat engine (not featured in the video)
- Save editor/hacking (mod support, e.g Linkle in Breath of the Wild)
It’s like Nintendo isn’t even aware what their own hardware can do.
Or maybe they do, and just want to hide it until they can make a quick buck off of introducing it legitimately.
In the case of save backups, the latter is guaranteed to be the actual reason. Because there is no legitimate reason for NOT having a manual save backup built right into the base console. It was an absolute scumbag move they did in advance to sell people on their paid online, when they finally announced it. It's one of the reasons I adamantly refuse to ever purchase their online.
I think the biggest thing about homebrew is game mods.
Some of the mods people made for the wii and wii U games were really impressive.
I always wanted to try Homebrew, but I guess I was too worried about messing up and bricking my consoles. Maybe I'll give this a shot when it gets more tuned up.
It has more to do with the fact that most previous Nintendo consoles have been cracked open through savefile exploits.
Is it worth getting a switch right now? Or should I wait for the switch+ stuff? Haven't had a console since 2006, and these homebrew things make the console a lot more appealing to get.
If you are looking for running homebrew then you'll probably want to get switch before nintendo releases new revision of hardware with current exploit fixed. Whatever comes after switch will not have this exploit for sure.
