The former president said that if Kemp chose to step down, it “would be a sign that you recognize the importance of this key democratic principle and want to ensure the confidence of our citizens in the outcome.” It is unclear whether Kemp, whose office had not immediately responded to a request for comment, had read or responded to Carter's letter. The Republican has faced widespread calls from Democrats to resign from his role and withdraw from the upcoming November midterm elections over allegations of voter suppression in Georgia. The Republican has faced widespread calls from Democrats to resign from his role and withdraw from the upcoming November midterm elections over allegations of voter suppression in Georgia. In addition to filing a lawsuit against Kemp over the incident, the Georgia NAACP also filed a complaint with the Georgia State Board of Elections claiming that voters in multiple counties had notified the branch of defective polling machines.  Voters had reportedly claimed that in some instances, their votes were being changed from Kemp's rival, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, who, if elected, would be the first black woman governor in the United States, to Kemp, who is Georgia's chief election officer. “We’ve seen issues across the state of Georgia,” Khyla D. Craine, the NAACP’s assistant general counsel, told The Root. “It’s not something that’s new, unfortunately. These machines are old, but it’s incumbent upon the people running the election to ensure that machines are fully functional," Craine said. Carter's call for the Republican to step down came as Kemp and Abrams continued locked in a tight race, with Kemp in the lead by less than 2 percentage points, according to a RealClearPolitics average of polling.
Lol good luck, most conservatives here still think Carter is literally the devil. Hes treated as the biggest embarrassment of GA, and not the massive history of the KKK and lynching.
70% of the purged voters being black is just too fucking perfect to be a coincidence, especially when 900,000 people were targeted. Fuck Kemp.
To give a little bit of insight to how little some of the people here care about the political stances each candidate has, my land lord the other day told us "Don't vote for that black woman, it's gonna cause problems. Vote Republican." Georgia is filled with folks who "don't care" about politics, just as long as there's no blacks or democrats.
He's the rare evangelical Christian left, in favor of same sex marriage, very against the death penalty, and for universal healthcare.
Dude, when Trump got elected, the first thing outta one of my co workers mouth was "Now we can gather up all the niggers and send them back to Africa." Lot of backwards folks in GA.
The governor of Alabama believed Roy Moore molested girls but voted for him anyway since Moore's Republican. The phrase "tantamount to election" is still warranted around here.
Also seening people hating will Farrell for supporting stacy abrams.
I'm so lucky to have lived in Georgia for 10 years and not ran into a single person like that yet. My skin color could be the reason I haven't met anyone openly racist yet.
