Homestuck is the most convoluted and overly thought out time travel story ever written
Homestuck is a time travel story?
yep, HS is a time travel story, and IIRC got soft rebooted, but it's a part of the story and blah blah blah
I remember years ago deciding, "I'm gonna read this, everyone seems to love it!" knowing literally nothing about it. I proceeded to read like the first page and then went, "Ehh, I'm gonna go play a game." I've never had an interest in reading it since.
100% exactly what I did too, omegalul. To this day I still want to read it though... maybe. Sniff. Maybe.
i got into homestuck when i was like, 9, and even though i never actually finished it - not back then, nor after more than one relatively recent attempt of re-reading it and getting through it all - i still have a lot of fond memories of reading it as a kid and being really immersed into the world and caring a lot about certain characters. it's far from the greatest written thing ever, but it's a really fun read if you have the time to sink into clicking through its thousands of fucking pages
Problem Sleuth is the superior MSPA, but cheeses christ did Homestuck take off. It was still way to reliant on reading
The first act is the most boring one. Not a lot happens, it just kind of sets up the characters and honestly it does it rather slowly (though it's still not that long). It's worth getting through it, though, as it starts to pick up pretty quickly in Act 2. The biggest hurdle, imo, is just getting over knowing how fucking long the whole story is. I took a break a few years back and haven't gotten back into it and by now I pretty much have to start over, and it honestly took me quite a while to get up to Act 5. It's not for everyone, though. It tends to be overly convoluted (on purpose) and the chat logs are a weird way to convey dialogue. They take some getting used to.
Homestuck is fun to read as long as you keep in mind that absolutely nothing is supposed to be taken seriously. It probably also worked better as something to keep up with as it updated, rather than looking at the thousands of pages and knowing you have to dive into it.
The first time I read it I was like, "Eh, adventure game parody, whatevs." Years later I gave it another shot and binged the whole thing. I liken the experience to nearly dying in the desert while on a peyote spirit quest- a bizarre, transformative trip that has enriched my life, but that I would never recommend to anyone and never want to do again.
Is it finished yet? I honestly kind of quit because I was sick of waiting so long for a single page as Hussie started to slow down his update schedule, understandably.
I actually own that shirt The fucking eyes glow in the dark.
I was an avid reader of Problem Sleuth. I was really hype for the new comic... and then it came out and updated faster than I could read it. I gather it slowed down eventually but it's just such a massive thing to try to read, and the early bits are kind of a slog. Is it actually finished yet? I might be able to let myself read it if I'm not constantly falling further and further behind. (PS: Prequel is still the best interactive webcomic, fight me nerds)
Homestuck's been finished for a while now. unless if he suddenly started it up again after saying it was finished, just to fuck with people but nah it's finished There is a game they've put out, though. Which I think is a side story? My sister plays it. More shirt stuff: I managed to find a Homestuck shirt in a thrift store. I bought it instantly. It's not one of the ironic or plain ones, it's one with all of the characters on it. But I'm pretty sure it would fit my sister perfectly, and she's into those types of shirts, so I'm going to give it to her the next time I see her.
There's two games out right now. One is a point and click adventure game, the other is a dating simulator where you try and make friends instead of dating. Hiveswap Act 1, and Hiveswap: Friendsim
I made it through 2/3 of the webcomic before stopping to avoid a mental breakdown. It's not worth it.
The descent of Act 6 was sad to sit through, but it had its good moments. Act 7 was awful. A little sad Paradox Space went down forever, there were a couple good comics on there. What an experience it was, the good and the bad. Don't know if I'll actually ever forget it.
What I remember most about Homestuck was the community on Face Punch around it, it was (mostly) a bastion of sanity when most Homestuck discussion dissolved into madness and ramblings.
I always wanted Homestuck to explain more about the actual mechanics of the game. But instead it devolved into shipping crap. Fucking wild ride it was, though. Met a lot of weird people through it.
I thought homestuck was pretty fun, if a tad convoluted at times.
I started reading it since my ex was into it. I still today think about the creative side of it. Animation styles, music, etc. I'd spend hours some nights just reading it, but I didn't really end up pursuing it as much as I know others did. I usually play visual novels on my commute, so being stuck reading it from a desktop wasn't a helpful scenerio
it was a fucking roller coaster but if I could go back and do it all again I would
Came here to post this.
Thats where i stopped because of the massive hiatus time to time. Used to be a huge fan though, all the fanart was great butthe porn was better. Unless its tentacle dicks, then thats just weird.
Oh man I loved Homestuck back in the day. I don't think ive seen anything quite like it since. I think the utterly inaccessible humour and convoluted plot should have been off putting, I actually loved the webcomic (?) for what it was. There's just something about getting a joke that is so reliant on running gags and super obscure callbacks- It's like the fact that you can be absolutely certain nobody else for miles around would understand what they are looking at makes the whole thing even funnier.
Sweet bro and hella jeff is the best.
When it's not on a 2 year long hiatus, sure
I still remember the advert for the Sweet Bro And Hella Jeff book. The fucking trailer was so unspeakably shitty that it actually ended up having it's sound muted on Youtube because whoever made it used a song from the Hotline Miami soundtrack without asking for permission. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXFvqrRJmI8 Looks like they have replaced the track with something else now, but originally it was this. The first time I heard this song was in a trailer for the fucking SBHJ book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02yditXnQZw
I remember staying up till 4am for that flash when New grounds fucking crashed with the immense load of fans flooding the site to see it.
