Every fucking year when spring and summer come around my nose clogs up and i live fore 6 months having a sneezing fit.
Has anyone had any success woth treating hay fever and allergies? Medication ive tried in the past has not worked at all and the ones that have only work before my symptoms start.
Netti pot and humidifier for me
There are a dozen different antihistamines out there over the counter. Have you tried them all?
I have no clue what you're trying to say with this.
Have you even been to the doctors? They'll walk you through the different medications.
I use Zyrtec, works for me. Supposedly can make you drowsy but I'm always drowsy anyway so who cares.
Ive tried most of them. Zyrtec works but like i said only if i take it before the symptoms come on.
What i mean is if i wake up feeling fine and take medication, i wont experience congestion, watery eyes etc, but once these symptoms start medication wont work which is shit because i wake up most days to these symptoms.
DIphenhydramine is the most effective OTC antihistamine, but it's first generation and will make you quite drowsy. Cetrizine is kinda poor, in my experience. Chlorpheniramine is a good middle-ground between them, if you haven't tried it.
Then take it religiously every day in whatever interval it says on the box.
I take kirkland (costco) brand antihistamines. Get a fuckload more for a cheaper price than reactine. Doesn't make me drowsy, and doesn't make me thirsty like some other ones. Works like a charm on me.
Ill have to give that a go, ive gone and bought myself some zyrtec to but they do make me drowsy. Theres a costco opening soon near me hopefully they have this.
For me the only thing that works well is Diphenhydramine. Seems to fuck up your sinuses though.
I have found nasonex most effective, cheap and relatively instant.
Zyrtec is dog shit tho
Yeah, it's an extremely effective one. Unfortunately, it no longer appears to be sold in the UK, probably because it can cause severe hallucinations when kids take a lot of it for 'the lulz.'
I use cetrizin for building up long-term resilience during the season and nasonex for instant relief.
Thing is that you need to be really consistent in taking the medication. Cetrizin won't do shit if you just take it every now and then, you need to take it twice daily.
I used Zyrtec when I was younger then switched to Aerius, both worked I guess until a few years ago when I stopped being allergic. Don't really know how that happened but I'm totally fine with it.
Maybe you built up an immunity to it. It can happen if you were exposed to the allergen constantly.
You can get generic Cetirizine (Zyrtec) for much cheaper. I think most pharmacies sell generics if you don't want to wait for costco to open up.
If you're experiencing symptoms almost every day, start taking the medication every day. Fun fact: studies show 10mg every 24 hours is just as effective as 20mg every 24 hours.
There are similar allergy meds that might not cause drowsiness - Have you tried Loratadine? Claritin is a popular brand name for it.
Don't use Neti pots unless you have distilled / decontaminated water to use it with.
No effort alternative is canned saline sprays - easy to clean and much safer than tap water up the nose.
Forgot to mention that, since that's actually kind of a super important detail
I just get $1 jugs of distilled water. Use it for coffee brewing and nose cleaning.
Stuff your nose with hay
