I watched my dad play the first game once, and that's it but that skull face always hits my brain like a ton of bricks.
Sir Daniel Fortesque, back from the dead once again
I'm pumped, I have nothing but good memories of this series from when I was a kid and this looks fantastic

And there's your answer to why its not on PSX Classic.
It's gong to be weird seeing this gameplay translated directly into HD graphics. Crash's platforming is very PS1 but it doesn't scream early 3D action game like Medieval's gameplay and animations do.
yes please, but dan's animations look very strange in a way i can't pin
Dan's original animations are like three frames at best per swing and he swings like a madman. It's likely that they're actually the same speed and it just appears slower because now they're fluid.
It looks better than I expected, but I'll need to see more cutscenes before I'm satisfied. I understand why they're making it less creepy than the original but I hope they retain more of that style over Resurrection's cartoon flamboyance. 20 years later and reading the words "Prepare to battle the Guardians of the Graveyard..." still unsettles me today.
So many great games getting full remasters. I loved Crash, Spyro, and MediEvil as a kid. I'd love to see this treatment for Gex, Silent Bomber, Ape Escape.....So many PS1 games that made my childhood.
I'm surprised that Future Cop L.A.P.D. has never had a remaster or even a spiritual sequel. Everyone loves that game and there's still nothing else like it. Fingers crossed.
I hope they change the sounds of him hitting stuff, sounded really unsatisfying compared to the original
Totally fucking radical, this game defined half of my obsession with spooky things. My biggest hope is that they don't take the writing from the PSP remake. The writing went from a good old-fashioned Monty Python ripoff to something desperately trying to be a bad ripoff of a bad ripoff of a Ralph Bakshi movie.
HAY FORTESKAY PULL MY FINGER
Really don't like the way it looks honestly. Like compare these two shots.

Sounds like I'm nitpicking but the atmosphere has gone, and the enemy design just doesn't align with what the original vision was. In the new one, the big blokes are jiggly, funny fat blokes with weird dragon-scale skin that visibly wobble like fatsos when they attack Dan.
In the original these guys were stiff and jointed and meant to be skeletons stuck in big Catarina-style defensive armor
It's like they did a basic interpretation of the models by looking at them and didn't really care about the context of them or the explanation for them ingame. Medievil is actually a very story-heavy game with a surprisingly well-written backstory for its world and characters, and
although it's not some bastion of writing I think it deserved to be respected purely because of its simplicity.
There's other examples just like this in this trailer, where they've bouncified models and shit and made them too cartony and silly. Not as bad as Resurrection, but stuff like the graveyard dogs being smooth, curvy, bouncy-looking Crash things with a hundred self-illum lights and
internal glowing and particle effects is just baffling because it didn't need changing that much.
I sound overnostalgic and nit picky but I think that even ignoring my love of Medievil a lot of the design changes suck dick just on an artistic criticism level.
I do like the new soul effects, I think seeing a ghostly version of your enemy float off to the Chalice is a hell of a lot more in tune with what the original Medievil's setting had going for it. The life bottles look like actual bottles rather than green dog turds, the zombies seem to be
legitimately spooky and zombie-like unlike Resurrection's "Slightly Green Men" and hopefully they won't bring back that fucking genie from Resurrection.
Overall it doesn't look like a perfect remake and it doesn't look great in terms of what they've changed, but provided they don't cut out half the fucking levels like Resurrection I think it'll be mostly alright. Not the way I'd hope most people experience Medievil for the first time,
since it will be straight up inferior to the original vision the creators had for the first game, but not a dreadful experience unlike Resurrection.
If you want to know why I consider Resurrection so bad, just compare the models of the Fazguls:

Just finished replaying this like a week ago too. I hope they don't copy the PSP version and are instead going for the original.
Honestly I'd love to see a Medievil 2 remake more than another remake of the original, because Medievil 2 had a really cool ass setting, its execution was what failed it.
resurrection was terrible. i hope this remake ends up more gothic than it currently looks
That's bollocks, the rolling demo of Medievil had Dan swing at a much slower speed:

Unfortunately I have these kind of gripes as well with most of the remasters these days. It's the same reason I have no drive to buy the Spyro Remastered game, because too much of its tone and artstyle has changed from the originals, regardless if it's considered an improvement by most.
looks like they have the atmosphere of the original game down, the psp remake was in the wrong ball park.
