Pretty disgusting that he has a lavish tomb after Spain became a democracy. They should dump his corpse in a forest and bulldoze the thing.
Worth noting, The Francisco Franco National Foundation has published this in relation to this event on its website... Desecration of the tomb of the Generalísimo. By Juan Chicharro Ortega Today, an individual named Enrique Tenreiro, with the complicity of a journalist named Pedro Armesto, has painted the tomb of Generalísimo Franco in the Valley of the Fallen. An action that if one sticks to what the RAE understands as treating without due respect something sacred with the intention of dishonoring respectable things can be considered as a clear desecration. It will be the Justice that decides the qualification of this fact and that punishes in his case these two individuals. In any case Napoleon already said that "revenge of the dead was a coward thing" and it is clear that this qualification comes to the hair to these two specimens of people. Let's see, if what they were trying to do with this action was to humiliate Generalísimo Franco, you only feel sorry for these poor men who are what they are: people corroded by hate as well as cowards. Humiliate Franco? Do not make me laugh. But who are these miserables to get something like that? There is an old Castilian saying that "it does not offend who wants but who can" and these are light years away from being able to even reach a minimum of humiliation of the figure of the General. I repeat it: laughable. They are only poor wretches who have achieved their "minute of glory" before the parish of hate propagators who will surely applaud this despicable action. Unfortunate is also the passivity and incompetence of those who have the responsibility of something like this happening. Just watch the video of the act in question to perceive the inaction of those present. It's embarrassing to see its inoperability. From this FNFF we show our deepest repulsion for this despicable fact and hope that the Justice responds as it corresponds to facts that go beyond the fact itself, since what happened deeply offends the feelings of millions of Spaniards who continue to keep admiration for the figure of Francisco Franco and what he represented for our country. Since the current President of the Popular Front Government decided, in a show of deep hatred, to proceed to exhume the remains of who governed the destinies of Spain for 40 years, a growing tension is beginning to settle in our society that begins to remind us of past times. The incompetence of Mr. Sanchez to lead an old nation like ours is reaching unthinkable heights and apparently does not find anything better to do than to encourage the appearance of old quarrels. Good example of this is what we have seen this morning.   Today, in the Valley of the Fallen Basilica where the remains of more than 30,000 Spaniards fallen in combat defending their ideals, were those who were, from both sides, two miserable have allowed the "feat" to desecrate the grave of who all good Spanish soldiers were buried there in a sign of reconciliation as it does not exist anywhere in the world. Wherever these fallen are, they will have blushed at the action of those who for me are no more than, as I said, some poor wretches unworthy of those who already rest in peace.   The FNFF demands that events like the one that occurred today not be repeated and calls on our leaders to stop this growing wave of hatred that is being installed in Spain and to avoid greater evils. There is still time for it. First of all, Mr. Sánchez, reconsider and stop the historical barbarity that you intend to do. Stop being a puppet in the hands of the neo-communists with good "dachas" that little they can take us to times already overcome. The reconciliation between Spaniards was already a fact. You are carrying it and resurrecting forgotten hatreds. Grave the responsibility yours and do not doubt that History will judge you properly. Mr. Sánchez, let the dead rest once in peace so that the living Spaniards can look to the future with joy and hope.
I'm not a fan of one man taking an action to vandalize any piece of history no matter how much of a ruthless cunt the man in question is. I get it's in protest but shoddily spray painting something on a monument like this is just about as tacky as it comes and you'd have to have some amount of arrogance to do something like this.
It's going to get removed soon anyways, hopefully the whole Valle de los caidos will stop existing, or be transformed into a museum showcasing the atrocities of fascism in spain.
As long as it's a communal decision I'm good with any action, just have issues with one man taking it upon himself to take action when it comes to historical matters.
No that was a communal decision.
It isn't a historical place, it's a monument to a dictator and a genocide, any relevant historical information about the civil war and the dictatorship is already in museums, this monument just glorifies him and his dictatorship. Remember, Spain is the only country where fascism didn't lose, in fact it was only ended after the man himself had died.
Yeah don't get me wrong I get it, my issue is with this one mans action not taking action in the first place. If everyone gathered and collectively pissed on the monument and I'd take that as great thing to do, I'm more angry with this one mans arrogance to speak for the people with a shoddy spray job than the act of fucking with the monument itself. If Franco was still alive, I would consider him a revolutionary, this is just vandalism out of principle, which I get, it's just so poorly done it was barely worth desecrating a monument to begin with.
Franco was quite clearly anti revolutionary though, the equivalent of this would be having a hitler statue in germany or a mussolini statue in italy.
Oh jesus christ no! I meant if Franco was alive, I would consider the man in the article a revolutionary.
oh sorry
Napoléon wasn't woke. That quote is not what I would call "woke" at all. Napoléon erased a lot of social progress achieved in the french revolution, and set the whole continent at war for genuinely no reason, sacrificing an entire generation of men for his militaristic insanity. That's quite the opposite of woke. Not that I support this action or not but Napeléon is not someone to quote as "woke". He was a tyrant and a war monger.
What do you mean? Look at his wickle face https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/237427/e725293a-1ad2-4127-822a-9399e5363213/image.png Such a cutie couldn't do these things you mention.
I really wish we could just remove the whole mountain, the whole thing is an offense to all of us, a sign that our mistakes of the past haven't actually rectified.
"I decided to carry out an artistic action consisting of drawing a dove of peace on Franco’s tomb,” Terneiro told journalist Pedro Armestre, who caught the incident on video. “I am not trying to harm the family nor his followers, what I want is a space of freedom,” he added. Don't worry it's avante art so that makes vandalism ok
