https://youtu.be/qMu1tOds8-Q Very entertaining rally this year, with some spectacular shots in this video.
Group B flashbacks with how close those spectators were to the cars.
I wish the cars weren't duller every year.
I used to be in this camp but it's hard to stay there. They're running some serious machines these days. Them basically all being based on eco hatchbacks is kind of lame but the end result makes up for it.
Yeah, pretty much this. With all the downforce they have now, the cars are running faster than Group B through the corners, so they're carrying even more speed. Spectacular. This year the championship's been closer than it ever has been as well.
Those are some sexy hatchbacks.
The way they bob and weave through that curvy mountain road is fucking erotic. These guys are goddamn mental. I wish WRC was more televised.
You can catch some stages and highlights on Red Bull TV both live and on demand. I'm not sure if they get the same number of stages as the TV coverage, but there's some you can watch.
i wish i could rally irl
Speed is one hell of a drug mmmm
It's probably just nostalgia to be honest. Like you said I can't shake the feeling that there's something a bit lame about a Hyundai i20 blasting round the course vs some of the cars of old.
Wish I was rich so I could afford to even try to become a professional rally driver
there are rally courses for amateurs.
Love watching the WRC. It’s the most pure form of motorsport imo. But international motorsports coverage is devastatingly terrible, so we never really get the chance to see it here outside of highlights like this.
Well you probably need to have, you know, a rally car to partake?
yea, and its expensive, but 'rich' isn't quite the right term. rally is actually probably the form of motorsport that is most accessible to becoming 'pro' since a great driver in a shit car will almost always beat a shit driver in a good car even more than in other disciplines. there is lots of amateur rally in the us also schools: https://www.teamoneil.com http://www.dirtfish.com/rally-school-programs-up-your-game/ motorsports is expensive but surprisingly accessible at an amateur level if you have the cash if you dont have the cash there is always karting (which is arguably the best anyway ;) )
it's less that and more irl motorsport is vomit comet for me i tried out that kart racing place in lex and after a few times around the track i was ready to puke (and i did). i guess i'll stick with racing sims
They look pretty dangerously fast to me
that sucks im lucky i guess, both my brothers get motion sick but the only time i feel nauseous while racing is if i do it on a full stomach, and thats mostly just common sense. the current cars are actually the fastest since group b was retired iirc, but the fia isnt as worried about it right now since vehicle safety has gotten better since then as well
Sure, I meant more the designs. Hyundai i20 or a Ford Fiesta vs an Impreza/Evo. Group A and Group B were brilliant aesthetic wise.
earlier this year toyota basically called out mitsubishi and subaru and told them to come join wrc again, and there are rumors that subaru is building a smaller hatchback that an entry could potentially be based off of. there are also rumors that wrc could be returning to a japanese stage in 2020 so its possible we could see them come back while cool still wont break the hatchback monotony but unfortunately thats just the way it is right now
The difficulty in overcoming this is what manufacturers want to produce and market, which currently is eco hatchbacks. You'd probably need the likes of BMW to return with one of their saloon cars, but they're already invested in the GT racing scene with the M8 GTE and M6 GT3s. Probably the most "exciting" designs you'll find are in the RGT category, with the Toyota 86, Abarth 124 and the new Porsche Cayman RGT that's being tested. Unfortunately, RGT doesn't have a big pool of drivers because, I would guess, the expense of running a GT car for rally - it doesn't get TV coverage because the field is low as well.
Just wait until motorsport is dominated by crossovers because manufacturers won't make anything else :v
The insane echo on the long high speed asphalt stretch, oh man
