Tesla owners will be able to remotely control their car through ..
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has been promising some major improvements to Tesla Autopilot’s Summon feature in recent weeks.
Now he has announced a new update coming in “~6 weeks” that will enable Tesla owners to remotely control their car through their phones “like RC cars”.

The CEO said that it will enable Tesla vehicles to “drive to your phone location and follow you like a pet if you hold down summon button on the Tesla app.”
It appears to be a different update than the one announced yesterday about Tesla’s next-gen Summon feature being able to find parking spots and read instruction signs. That update is expected next year.

I cannot wait to see the number of "Hold My Beer" incidents that happen because of this.
This can only end well
Haven't heard of any issues with range rovers that can do this.
Are commercial Range Rovers currently remote controllable? All Google is giving me is a 2015 demonstration.
This seems like a completely awful idea in the age of the Internet of Things. Who knew Mega Man Battle Network was actually predicting the future.
As cool as that'd be it'd only be useful as a dumb gimmick for a while, and also be a massive security risk.
Can you elaborate what you were saying? I'm confused
Great potential for disabled parking.
this is a terrible idea tbh. that's just asking for your car to be fucked with.
Really? You can't figure out any positives to being able to send your car wherever you want? If I want to go somewhere but can't find parking, all is well, because now my car can just drive itself to parking on its own while I do my job or whatever.
If this is properly secured and has proper limits(which Teslas absolutely have been so far, there are serious airgaps in the system), I can't see much going wrong with this.
I wonder what the legality is of this on public/private property that's not yours? I doesn't sound much different than Tesla's existing summon feature except it dares to navigate around obstacles instead of just going on a straight line. Also new that you'll be able to drive it around with the phone. Probably restricted to speed. We'll see.
Soon

Yes and no
Having it send itself to home or work would be very useful, but that's not quite the same as having it drive like an RC car.
Having it drive like an RC car and only in LoS would be a bit pointless.
Clicking on a map and sending your car there would be hella useful.
I can't believe Elon Musk brought mario kart of Mobile Phones
Auto-Chauffeurs would be among the best possible things that could happen to most large cities' economies.
I remember when people were worried about having their stupid wifi enabled keyfobs swiped by people and having their cars stolen, and now we're letting cars just fucking go at the push of a button to be summoned?
Car theft in the 21st century, we literally just push a button and your car steals its self. GG
This can't be legal in most countries.
Basically the entire plot of the entire MMBN franchise is the Internet of Shit on steroids. To the point where things like tanks get hacked remotely and fire upon people or stoves catching fire from viruses and even a scenario where a bus gets hacked and remotely controlled.
Im a little worried that this is the holy grail for car bombings...
Nah, with a safety rating like Teslas you can expect something like this.

can't wait for it to turn out that this was actually a bug that they wrapped up in a UI and turned into a feature

Hack em all!
My car needs some sexy time as well, ok?
'while using tesla autopilot you should always be attentive and ready to take control of the car if necessary'
'but no worries go ahead and control your car through your phone!'
Fucken stupid, what if it loses connection or the phone starts shitting itself? Keeps accelerating? Stops in the middle of the road?
It's probably going to require you to hold a button on the app, and it will only crawl. The driver will still be very much in control.
one of the best bond car chases ever because they had to solve the problem of bond driving a sensible bmw sedan for once
Not sitting at the controls to the car
"very much in control"
pick one
Times have changed in all circles.
Your parents in 2006: Don't believe everything you see on the internet!
Your parents now: FreedomEagle.facebook says Hillary invented AIDS!
Ahh, yes, totally a good idea. Let's just put a shitton of backdoors into our cars that'll make it even easier for people to do nefarious shit! Phone apps are totally secure, right guys?
