Just making it harder for victims and easier for perpetrators
I really hope that this is a crime in itself.
If not, it should be.
Great a massive fucking "win" three days before the elections.
Like it or not, the right will still use it as such, even if you are right here
If this is your takeaway, you're foolish.
To be clear, the woman in question is lying about being the "Jane Doe" who wrote the letter, not saying that the letter is false testimony.
I'm also seeing a lot of people try to tie this to the accusers we do know about, Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez. Namely the president

I think it's reasonable to lament how the right is going to spin this
It doesn't excuse real life injustices, I just wanted to point out why no one should take your moralizing seriously.
Eh don't bother him. He's a troll.
I didn't say you were wrong about anything
Look I'm sorry, this is bad all around. This will hurt the legitimacy of future allegations as well as current ones. She's a massive asshole.
You don't have to apologize, any reasonable person who has seen your posts would assume that you don't want people to lie.
Reducing it to just "our team" "other team" and not acting like politics has a monumental effect on people's lives is the most infantile fakewoke shit.
People were thinking I wanted women to make false allegations? That's the complete opposite, I was unhappy that this event will throw doubt into Ford's and others' allegations, and the timing of her confession
is very poor, and if Kav is innocent she's even more of a massive asshole for it.
if trump set a bus full of mexican children on fire he'd laugh at all the triggered snowflakes on twitter
the only thing he'll ever take seriously is a direct threat to his own safety, everything else is just a joke to him
Also i find it funny how when the dust settles from this whole shit-show. these types crawl out of the woodwork and try to use the circumstances that occurred as some bullshit excuse to go "WE WON".
Cause last time i checked, these users were pretty silent when the whole shit show of Kavanaugh's hearing happened. Only waiting to say something after it ended.
The right will just use this as justification to dismiss all sexual assault allegations.
Unless they're against Democrats/Mueller
I'm a little confused by the wording in the article, did the lady actually send out the Jane Doe letter, or did she just falsely claim to be its author?
She falsely claimed to be the author. From another article;
On September 25, staffers for Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) referred to investigators an undated handwritten letter signed “Jane Doe” that the office had received from Oceanside, California. The letterclaimed that Kavanaugh and a friend had raped her “several times each”
in a car but had no return address, timeframe, or location.
The committee set out to investigate the claims, and they asked Kavanaugh about them — he vehemently denied them. On September 26, they released the transcript of the interview with Kavanaugh and the full text of the letter.
Days later on October 3, Munro-Leighton emailed the committee claiming to be Jane Doe and included a typed version of the letter. They found her, and Grassley’s letter says she was a “left-wing activist” who is “decades older than” Kavanaugh and lives in Kentucky. On November 1, investigators spoke with Munro-Leighton about her allegations, and she said that she hadn’t been assaulted by Kavanaugh and, in fact, didn’t write the letter at all. She said she sent the email as a way to “grab attention” after seeing the letter online.
So it doesn't even prove the Jane Doe accusation is false.
And the Trump gang are acting like this is vindication.
Trump will absolutely rally with this in mind over the next three days. Now every accuser was fake because one was, even though this was exactly why we wanted an investigation to get rid of these sorts of fake ones.
All this proves to me is that fake accusations absolutely don’t withstand inspection, so the ones that do should be taken all the more seriously.
Not really, this is just one that didn't, but there's probably plenty of false accusations that never get proven false. After all almost 90% of rape accusations are never proven one way or the other, any number of these could be false or real.
What people should really take away from this is that while rape accusations should be taken seriously, you shouldn't adopt a "guilty until proven innocent" mindset a lot of people do.
haha sure is crazy one of his accusers flipped 3 days before the election, isn't it
I wonder, if they were coerced into silence/ignorance, how was it done? Money? Threats?
I mean, LGBT discrimination is a "real life injustice" and you seem to think that shit is great.
It's hard not to see you as a partisan knob when you consistently treat discrimination issues like a joke and then get all righteously indignant over someone falsely claiming.... to be the person behind an anonymous letter?.
"a person tried to ruin another person's life with false accusations" no, a person tried to falsely claim that she was behind an accusation, when she wasn't. For all we know, the original accusation is entirely credible. At worst, this person has undermined the credibility of the anonymous victim.
Also lmao "ruin his life" the worst thing that would have happened to Kavanaugh was that he wouldn't get to be one of the highest judges in America, and would have to stay at the ~lowly rank~ of judge.
If that's cause for outrage in your mind, but trampling on the rights of minority groups is a big joke, then maybe you shouldn't be calling other people out for treating politics like a team game.
I seriously don't know where this "ruin their lives" thing comes from, but I think Samantha Bee said it best:

To be fair I knew they were doing this since this whole thing began.
