I think it is just for companies who want to protect information possibly leaked due to someone breaking NDA.
Information are kept from the public because the marketing want to ensure information is finalized and favorable timing relations with their audiences.
Embargo exists so that ppl don't rushing out crap for clicks.

But ultimately publishers shouldn't CONTROL what the media can report, they should trickle their information instead.
