https://www.rawstory.com/2018/11/woman-pretends-persecuted-trump-supporter-scams-conservatives-thousands-dollars/ A woman identifying herself as “Reformed Republican” posted a photo of herself in a “Make America Great Again” hat and announced she refused to hide any longer. The way the story ended, however, was not the way Republicans would have hoped. “I will not hide any longer,, [sic] the left has made us feel as if us black republicans [sic] should hide!! but not anymore!! #BlacksForTrump #WalkAway #maga” She posted a GoFundMe link to a since-deleted request for help. She raised over $150,000 off of conservative donors. Once she was finally outed, she explained that it wasn’t stealing because Republicans aren’t people, to begin with. https://twitter.com/alexbrucesmith/status/1059200215419314176 https://twitter.com/alexbrucesmith/status/1059199707342204929
That's gonna sting when she gets charged.
What an idiot. The GOP may be terrible people but they're still people. Though I'm not sure how she's a "reformed Republican" since she's obviously a terrible person herself.
Fools and their money are soon parted.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Honestly? She shouldn't be charged with shit.
but why
Why?
because it's a gofundme and no one but idiots donates to those
I mean, strip away the politics from it. Don't think about it as republicans blindly giving money to someone they thought was on their side. People gave money to someone they thought needed the help when they didn't. That makes it scamming.
which is the sum total of the value of kickstarter and gofundme and etc?
That's an unfortunate mentality.
Still, it's the political equivalent of the Nigerian prince emails, it's impossible for any reasonable person to fall for.
And that somehow matters? It doesn't change the fact that it's still scamming
How many republican/conservatives do you know that advocate the government should stay out of as much of their business as possible? I've heard multiple arguments in the last few months that the government should play no role what so ever in safe guarding peoples rights or well being from republican and conservative posters and people in the real world. My question is, under that framework, what recourse do you have for being scammed? None, and to me, it seems apparent that's the world many of the currently politically empowered want. So to me, it seems at the very least, mildly hypocritical. Charge her with scamming, my initial post was more joking than serious, but there's a disparity here that I don't know how to ignore.
I'm going out on a rather large limb, but with 150k, no trivial amount, I wouldn't exclude the possibility that some campaign or another donated to make a point of racial cooperation on the Republican side, IF that is the case, this girl is in deeper shit than she knows.
Like I get what some of you are saying and I think republicans unwittingly giving someone 150k is hilarious but equality before the law is kind of a big fucking deal. I dunno if she could be prosecuted for this considering it was a donation drive or whatever, but if she could be, she should be.
She probably shouldn't get away with what she did but I'd be lying if I said I had any sympathy for them.
The only other source I can find is this one where the author claims to have received emails proving that she not only got far less money than is claimed (around $200) and that she had refunded $90 before the GoFundMe went down.
The same recourse you have now. Theft and fraud are still theft and fraud. Not even your run of the mill libertarian thinks that either theft or fraud should be legal.
Strong praxis.
perhaps the invisible hand of the free market will save them
If dishonestly taking money from Trump supporters is illegal, does that mean Trump should go to prison?
If taxation is theft, then I hardly see how a government would exist to protect people FROM theft.
If the president made a career out of scamming people, why are we holding a random person to a higher standard?
Oh you mean how Trump engaged in suspect Tax Fraud as he reaped riches from his father? How he used fraud, cheating, and scamming as his methods to actually reach the white house? Why would anyone on the right admit that this man is now the "Example" of how to "Win" in america? This woman is doing little more than following in his footsteps, what hypocrisy it would be to punish her for doing similar actions to that of the president of the united states. Really, she should be elevated to a higher position, much like how the GOP elevated Trump.
So far I don't think I've seen anybody in this thread sympathize with the ideology that taxation is theft, or that the president is a shining example of an everyday citizen. I'm not sure why those points are being brought up at all. A lot of people manage to "get away" with things somehow. That doesn't mean we think it should be allowed lol?
Sure, hold her accountable. But what the fuck is the value of holding a two bit thief accountable if the highest crimes possible don't even get a reaction from the ruling political party lol?
I think we're just making fun of how morally depraved the GOP is
Honestly this just goes to show you can make a lot of money if you're a black person who shits on the left. There's plenty of hustlers out there who just haven't been caught.
