[Forum] Communities that have perished since the move
41 replies, posted
Threads that you often visit but not anymore because the megathread died and nobody bothered to make a new one.
Or the thread activity is 2 posts every other week or got buried hard.
I'll start with Hearthstone. I personally don't play it anymore but I've noticed that the circle here died completely.
Also what happened to the pictures of you thread
The programming section (WAYWO and "What do you need help with") is significantly less active. I think everybody moved to discord
The forum in general became far less populated. It's sad.
To be honest, whilst some may enjoy Discord, and that's their right, I have tried it and don't think it could ever match up. It's okay to supplement the forum experience from time-to-time, but it's not an adequate replacement in any way for a forum experience.
And I hate this because you post a question only to have it immediately buried by a conversation thats already going on.
Right, it's what I really dislike about discord; there's not a good possibility for continuity of a conversation past a few minutes, whereas the notification and quote system of the forums allows a chain of conversation to go on for days, weeks, months etc.
furry porn thread
actually
Don't forget Unity, Unreal and general gamedev threads being completely gone. Those were some of my favorites.
I don't know what garry's intentions are.
First everything became overly divided with a plethora of subsections, driving people away.
Second remove megathreads so people are forced further out into those subsections, followed by even more people leaving.
Last, condense many subforums together way past the point that they've ever been before, so that those who are remaining in those sections hardly share anything with each other, driving even more away.
Good example: the programming section. It used to be so active a long time ago. As time went we tended to keep into megathreads, every once in a while sparking up a new thread for a specific topic. Now it's merged with the modelling and mapping subsection, with >90% of the content just being stuff for gmod. I for one am unsubscribed to that section because I don't give a damn about gmod content - I haven't played that game in like a decade.
Garry wants to throw away the forums entirely, that's what his intention is.
I just wanted to let you know guys that even if this place goes I was extremely happy to have been a part of this community for such a long time. Hopefully even if that occurs Facepunch will attain some sort of continuation in a different format that is the same in spirit.
Garry is a bit of an ******* tbh.
The rimworld thread would get bumped everytime there was an update, now the game is out and the thread is dead thanks to the post limit
Maybe we should shitpost on 4chan about facepunch until more people join or something.
AFAIK the last thread's OP deleted her FP account so the thread just disappeared and nobody bothered to recreate it.
The RP mob from games in progress have all moved to the nationRP forums. It's not the best fit but it's better than being here.
God that last sentence is so fucking sad.
Facepunch
I remember waking up to like 500+ new posts in LMAO pics.
The classic was the airsoft subforum getting destroyed
There's technically a thread but most people are just on the discord for it.
American Football is a pretty dead thread. Not like it was the most super active beforehand, but it's entirely died mid-season as a result of these changes.
I don't visit the games subforum, like at all anymore. It's hard to find the FT threads I liked using inbetween all the other shit.
Wasn't this the reason about megathreads being bad?
I know its one of the reasons I don't like them. Mega threads have their place for things that don't have discussions for the most part like LMAO Pics or the the Wholesome Pics threads. However for things like programming questions, videos, modding discussion, or debates on single topics mega threads are shit.
The last Total War Megathread was closed and a new one was never made after the switch to Newpunch.
Wasn't a huge deal because most conversation happened in Videos And That Kind Of Crap when a trailer was shared.
"Wasn't a huge deal" until Garry purged the forums even further.
Still a pretty niche thread, but the Electrical Engineering thread has died down in activity, of course there were only a dozen or so of us to begin with (Again most have moved to the Discord channel).
The Video subforum especially.
A lot of the non-big franchise megathreads have died off and even tenacious ones like the MonHun and STALKER threads die frequently for days or more at a time. They were never SUPER active because of the slow pace of content for those series', but you used to be able to post something and get feedback or discussion pretty sharpish, not anymore.
It really does suck how less populated this place has become. It was nice being able to take a break from work and read the dozens of new posts in various threads; now there's only ever a couple per thread.
Really makes working the graveyard shift more crummy. 😞
The changes to the forums have never been about creating a better user experience and encouraging better posting and features for users. It's been about throwing shit at the wall to try to make the numbers magically go up so Garry's ego can be stroked.
Porn threads period are all worthless now that they're in OIFY. Unless you love gore and other shock images mixed in with your porn.
