• If you were looking at a 1080ti, get it now before supplies dry up.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonevangelho/2018/11/05/report-nvidia-gtx-1080-ti-no-longer-in-production-supply-running-low/ I remember someone saying the entire ploy of the 20xx cards was to sellout the remaning 10 series, but I didn't expect them to gut production that fast. Even the 9xx series lasted a year~ after the 10xx series.
When is the whole graphics card extravaganza going to stop Just bring me back the 2014-ish market, plz
Can't wait for scaplers to get them and crank the price two fold
I was planning on upgrading the coming weeks and haven't really followed the 20xx line news, does this mean there'll be a shortage for the regular GTX1080 as well?
It means you're either going to have to risk a used card, possibly DOA from crypto mining in a horribly hot server box, probably scalped to high heaven even then because supply is low. OR, you can go with the brand new 2080TI, you know, the card that at stock clocks is running so hot that it's frying the FE card and even some OEM cards. For like, even more money.
Don't scare the guy. He's probably not gonna get a mining card if he has some sense when buying.
You're right, he'll most likely be fine since the mining bust flood was months ago iirc, but it's still a concern with buying used products, especially post-crypto boom. Rule of thumb is same as before, if the price seems too good to be true, it definitely will be in PC hardware, but I'd be extra cautious still of any price that seems more than marginally better than the average listings.
Gone are the days an average person can afford to build a pc without taking a loan.
I got a GTX 970, I thought about upgrading but I figured I would go for new CPU since most games now an around nearly bottleneck my i5 7600k CPU. This is pretty horrid if they are dropping production that soon.
Guess I'm just gonna keep my 980TI. I'm really getting sick of Intel and Nivida...I've been using them for ages and rarely even considered AMD. I think my next build is going to be AMD CPU and GPU. Just need to find a GPU that will be the equivalent of something like a TI.
Here's to hoping navi can bring some real competition in the GPU world.
I really don't see the point of anything newer than a 1070 mini for 1080p which most people have.
How major of an upgrade is it from the 980 to the 1080? I've not had any issues lately running the hottest games and such, but maybe they've just so happened to be well optimised
As soon as Nvidia gets some serious competition again. This is what happens with monopolies
literally almost double the performance in most games. The jump in performance between the 9xx to 10xx is insane, hence the 20xx is a massive disappointment.
Nah, it's just the high-end stuff that's getting really expensive. On the flipside, if you do buy it, it'll last you waaaay longer than a top of the line PC did back in the mid 2000s. If you restrict yourself to midrange components, you can build a decent 1080p/60 rig for a very reasonable price.
1080ti X-Trio $850 my loss is your gain best deal in town
Even if a card has been used for mining, the worst that it'll have is fucked fans that have either been running 100% due to profiles or they're fucked because they've been packed so tightly than the fans have been overstressed to push airflow. Everyone downclocks their mining cards as of the last few years so the GPUs themselves are basically barely used, its just the constant uptime and fucked airflow that screws up their fans which is like £5~35 at most for replacements depending on card OEM.
I'm still rocking a 780 Ti but I don't have the savings for a 1080 Ti at this time. I'm thinking about waiting for AMDs card because my card is still working just fine after 4+ years (DE:MD is the most recent game that gives me performance issues) If AMD Navi is a bust and 1080ti is out of stock that I guess I'm waiting and crossing my fingers that my card doesn't fail.
what how my 6600k is just fine OCd but fine...

3D mark /= game performance: https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/gtx-1080-vs-980-2941822 or in video format https://youtu.be/L01WPDqy7QM Benches are really terrible at judging game performance. Unless he is looking to make a bench pc to run benchmarks, a jump from 70 to 110 fps is pretty massive considering its a single gen leap.
I can play Elder Scrolls Online, I near bottleneck from 80% to 100% CPU. I play Rainbow Six Siege 99% most all the time, Play Kingdom Come - Bottleneck at 95-99% most of the time even not in town. Miscreated and other games as well. Its crazy.
No lie, I've thought about nabbing a cheap used 1080ti off of ebay during the holidays. I've been wanting to upgrade my aging GTX 970 for about a year now, but I definitely don't have the cash for a 2080/2080ti, and the 2070 doesn't seem like a substantial of enough upgrade to me for the price. However, the news of AMD apparently looking to make high end GPUs again is also making me want to wait one more time. I don't expect their new GPUs to beat the RTX GPUs, but at least match or come close to matching them in terms of performance for a good bit less. And to be fair, my GTX 970 is still more than enough for my needs right now seeing as I'm still running games at 1080p. It's more me wanting to prepare for getting a high refresh rate 2K or 4K monitor in the future.
What games actually benefit a not negligible amount from going to a 1080 over something like a 1060 or 70? The cards continue to get crazier while game engines have somewhat stagnated due to needing to work on years old console hardware... Unless you're a graphic designer or a professional streamer who is streaming on the same box as gaming, I am having a hard time seeing a reason to go to these $600+ cards...
My 980 will do me for a couple more years, no issues with any games with it. My CPU (2500k) is what will be my next upgrade.
Do you not understand how yields work? Production was gutted months ago. Lol, no. The cost of making Turing obviates that completely. The people now buying Pascal never had the premise of buying it all at MSRP until they found what the price of Turing was. Card prices are like housing prices, they will only ever go down in an absolute glut, and by glut that means NO one buying cards.
Depending on the card, you can literally tape/glue/ziptie two case fans to the gpu and it will work just as well if not better than the old fans. It's very important to do your research in regards to this though.
someone please free me from 970 hell
My buying of a Strix 1080Ti for £750 on Ebay is looking a lot better now then, I do hope whoever wants to buy one though can get one for a decent enough price but I get the feeling some people are going to use this to get a shit load. I don't know what the fuck NVidia are playing at though, they need pull their head out their ass and stop fucking people over.
