When Blizzard’s sole Diablo announcement at this year’s BlizzCon turned out to be a game for phones, it set off a firestorm of angry reactions from fans who had hoped for a new Diablo on PC. As it turns out, Kotaku has learned, Blizzard had originally planned to tease Diablo 4, but pulled those plans at the last minute.
The original plan for BlizzCon 2018, according to two people familiar with Blizzard’s plans, was for Blizzard to announce the mobile game Diablo Immortal and then end on a video in which company co-founder Allen Adham told the audience that a proper Diablo 4 was in development but not ready to show just yet. Instead, at last Friday’s keynote, Blizzard revealed Diablo Immortal to a quiet, uncomfortable crowd and then ended the show. For most of the weekend, Diablo fans raged online as a result, expressing their anger on YouTube and various forums. There were a few reasons for the controversy, but the driving factor was that the company’s sole Diablo announcement was a game that appeared to be made for a very different audience than hardcore Diablo fans.
"Gotta hold off on that D4 announcement so we can hit em with an epic "don't you have phones" zinger amirite"
🙄
@Unclejimmema but this thread is later?
Anyway, i hope they wont pull a Valve on D4
How does one fuck up this badly
This one was actually a tad earlier, they were posted within a minute if one another
epic troll.
They could have just pulled a bethesda and showed the title card
Should have taken cues from Bethesda's E3. While the presenter was no Todd Howard, Bethesda chose to end with "We are working on Starfield and the next Elder Scrolls, but we have no info on it since it's years away." and announced Blades near the middle and didn't see that huge amount of backlash. If they truely didn't have that much to show for all their games, they should have ended with Overwatch's new hero cinematic instead.
Well if they do then Valve fans will now be fully aware to not give a shit as soon as it starts being even remotely similar.
Yeah they really should have said something about D4. At this year's E3, people were hyped up when they saw the GoW logo an then were promptly disappointed when it turned out they were showing off a teaser for a pop figure spinoff game, then they made up for it by showing GoW5 before anyone could even groan
i totally forgot they are releasing that funko game
All they would have need to do is tease it in the most minor way possible and no one would care if Diablo Immortal is not their cup of tea. They could just ignore it with the knowledge that D4 is coming.
Yeah. Look at how many Metroid fans instantly forgave Nintendo for federation force and everything else. No gameplay, no screen shots, no actually information, just a teaser card with "Metroid prime 4" written on it and some reused music and suddenly people flood the comments squealing in glee.
Really surprising that blizzard didn't see this coming.
Uh oh.

Its gonna be fucking Diablo 3 all over again, isn't it?
Bullshit. This is an ass pull.
pretty sure Activision is pushing a big fat dildo into Blizzard.
Vigorously.
They had second thoughts on the current iteration of Diablo IV: The FPS Dating Sim (How Can My Mephisto Possibly Be This Cute)
Would like to take this time to remind you that Jason Schreier is an absolute ass clown who is probably getting money shoved up his ass to defend Blizzard ATM.

Blue twitter check marks just mean they're a shill or probably retarded and shouldn't be listened to.
I'm well aware, but at the same time, if Blizzard openly admitted that they're having massive development issues, it's probably fucking true. You don't just go and drop bombs like that for no reason.
Would it be that fucking hard to just have a guy on stage say that they're working on Diablo 4 for PC but at the moment they have nothing to show for it, especially after they realized that the public was not fucking amused at all?
Me thinks they didn't want Diablo 4 to steal any thunder from Mobile because that would be what would definitely happen and this is all just damage control bullshit. No way that every game news website would not be spamming news of Diablo 4 announcement and news of Mobile would be completely shat on to the side.
They're getting their Chinese market warmed up and they don't want anything getting in the way.
Diablo as a franchise is in turmoil.
WoW retail is at its lowest point in a years.
WoW Classic is viewed cautiously by the community.
Warcraft 3: Reforged is extremely divisive.
Starcaft 2 doesn't see new content except coop commanders.
Hearthstone is popular but requires insane money dumps to play.
Heroes of the Storm is still watered down League of Legends.
Overwatch is... there I guess?
Blizzard's fallen pretty far in my opinion.
This is par for the course for Blizzard in my book. I've never held a high opinion of them really.
I haven't been a real fan for a while but I can't remember a time I could look at every single one of their franchises and see nothing but mediocrity and negativity. It's just sad.
You can blame Activision if you want, and i have no doubt they're a chunk of the problem, but most of this falls down to Blizz themselves. They've been sinking lower and lower in terms of writing, quality, and PR for years now and it looks like they'll be grabbing a shovel when they hit the bottom of the barrel.
Heroes of the Storm is actually good though? Alright, granted, I only ever played versus AI matches, but people who like it like it specifically because of the shared xp and lack of last hit mechanics. Its the whole reason the game has characters no traditional MOBA could ever have, like Abathur.
He's pushing so hard for this now I am question if Diablo 4 is even real, and Blizzard is pushing it through paperwork to get it out the door.
HotS is good if you have insomnia and need to fall asleep.
The IPs aren't really what I'm talking about, its the company. They've always struck me as a company that has spiders in its smile. Friendly and seemingly caring about their fans while always looking for the next way to exploit them and ultimately valuing the dollar over the fan.
People can have own opinions, news at 11
I like HotS a lot tbh
