MSNBC's Morning Joe hosts said on Monday, the day before the midterm elections, that before he became president, Donald Trump admitted that using the race card was wrong but "it
works."
Morning Joe co-host Mika Brezizinski said that she and co-host Joe Scarborough confronted Trump about pushing the birther conspiracy theory that questioned whether former
President Barack Obama had been born in the United States.
"We said it's bad, it's wrong, and he said in a low voice, 'I know it's bad but it works,'" Brezizinski said. "Racism in his mind, works. That's what he told us." "Well, we'll see if it works,"
Scarborough said. "I'm not so sure it will."
Scarborough had previously criticized Trump, and in turn the GOP strategy, by reminding voters frequently over the last couple of weeks of Trump's controversial stance on a white
nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, last year, in which the president blamed both sides for the deadly violence.
"That's what's interesting, not talking about the economy but talking about imaginary walls and an imaginary caravan. If you liked Donald Trump because he was racially insensitive
and he said these outrageous things, you already had those people," Scarborough said.
Scarborough opined that swing voters might have been persuaded to vote Republican if the GOP had instead run a campaign around the strong economy, but that the race card "
inspires Democrats, independents, moderate Republicans, suburban Republicans, to vote Democratic," he said.
NBC News national political reporter Heidi Przybyla said she saw many races get closer after racial issues were raised, including the Florida gubernatorial race between Democrat
Andrew Gillum and Republican Ron DeSantis.
Other racist comments that Trump allegedly made have been raised in recent days. The president's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen, who pleaded guilty to eight criminal counts
in federal court and implicated Trump in campaign finance law violations, on Friday gave Vanity Fair four instances in which he said Trump made racist remarks.
According to Cohen, Trump said, "black people are too stupid to vote for me," "name one country run by a black person that’s not a s***hole," "only the blacks could live like this" about
a rough neighborhood, and "there’s no way I can let this black f****** win" when discussing past seasons of his show The Apprentice.

yyyyikes
Son of known Klansman also shows himself to be blatant white supremacist, news at eleven.
I feel I need to clarify that my "agree" is for the "yyyyikes" part because holy goddamn shit
Look, I get that a lot of right-wing people will come out of the woodwork to state that this is clearly not true, but the fact that I have doubts due to Trump's previous rhetoric is fucking scary.
The fact someone like this is US president is deeply saddening, what the fuck happened.
I'm not even phased. Genuinely not even phased. This will do absolutely nothing against him.
Nothing "happened". US is a country founded on white supremacy and it's been a white supremacist nation since 1776
The office of the President used to have such dignity, held by men with such intelligence and gravitas without seeming pompous. Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy,
Barack Obama. Now we have an insane orange TV host failed businessman Russian sockpuppet who thinks black people and his predecessor are stupid n words.
The US up until your worthless ass got into office. (Though it's honestly pretty debatable even then.)
Barack Obama used up all of the good president juice. He was calm, collected, eloquent, intelligent, perfectly well-spoken, modern, perfect presidential material. He had so much goddamn dignity that you couldn't make fun of the guy, if you wanted to make a joke out of him you had to play off this exterior and play him as the straight man in a comedy act. It was extremely difficult to make a fool out of him outside of a few cases.
After getting a guy like that it's no wonder that America decided to vote in the polar opposite to balance the scales.
How racist would they be if Fox News wasn't around, decades of progaganda and hatred against the other had to have had some affect. Trump also lost the vote by three million and would not be President
if he didn't win several Rust Belt states by one percent.
The GOP is in two factions, the ones who love Trump and the ones who hate him but support him because of how influential he is. The Kocha, McConnell, etc fucking despise Trump but he's so useful for them.
Many think Trump is a horrible human being but The Agenda is more important than that. Don't confuse the racist idiots with the true evil in the GOP.
Why would I accept that? Not all Republicans vote Republican because of the scary blacks. There's a lot such as my best friend who vote Republican out of ignorance since that's what his family has voted since he was born. There's also a lot who vote Republican for other reasons even if they're stupid (lower taxes) or for reasons that are a bit short-sighted but valid (second amendment). And to my knowledge Republicans actually make up somewhat less than half the American populace anyways. So no matter how you look at this that claim is simply outright false.
The country has an issue with white supremacists. That much is true. That just means that white supremacists are infesting powerful positions in our government which should not be allowed. You don't need to paint a false picture to make your point here.
All you can do in America to stop racism is mitigate it. When Democrats control the government again they'll hide it and let it fester waiting for the next Trump, and even if Democrats control the government for a
long time, our First Amendment makes it impossible to criminally punish people for what they say unless it's slander or promotes imminent lawless action.
I hope I don't sound defeatist, but racism in America is a very long term problem that can really only be solved generationally, and the entire time we try to fix it they're pushing the other way. Don't stop pushing
People liked the idea that Trump just says what's on his mind and doesn't cater to be as neutral as possible. Even I like that idea. I wish all politicians would be like that.
Unfortunately. Everything on Trump's mind is a pile of hot garbage, and that's if it's coherent in the first place.
salacious and fake news!
Every day i wonder how Trump managed to even have a chance to become president.
I know he didn't win the popular vote, but Jesus Fucking Christ.
the gop made sure the government did nothing for 6 years as the country was climbing out of a monster recession. If the democrats had been able to enact more reforms and stimulus then we could have recovered faster and populism wouldn't have taken hold. 2010 though was the first time campaigns could spend virtually unlimited sums thanks to citizens united and the koch's silently bankrolled populists across the country creating a massive wave of red backed by ironically the big moneyed donors they opposed
Policy wise, he wasn't exactly spectacular, a normal establishment democrat, but sandwiched between bush and Trump he'll be presented by history as an generally decent president.
We went from Obama to this.
Like, complain all you want about drone strikes, but holy fuck is Trump a caricature of an evil person.
Sadly I don't think this is going to mean much. Second-hand reports like this from a source that Republicans have already been conditioned to disbelieve are going to be extremely easy to "fake news" and walk away from.
5 6 7 8 America was never great
