I see that even after 7 years of development and criticism, Overkill still can't do stealth, writing or optimization right.
Going from Hitman to Payday 2 stealth is like having your fucking head drilled.

Gggman doesn't mention it in the video, maybe due to spoilers or he just didn't get far enough, but there's a really dumb irreversible thing about halfway through the game.
Heather the Scout-class character gets shot and dies and is replaced by an earlier antagonist Reina who's a completely different character but functions similarly, with progress carrying over to her character.
Here's the thing. Heather is permanently locked out now, and will be grayed out on the character select screen. She also can't be played on previous missions. It's such an unnecessary form of shock value/plot welding because the game already allows duplicates of the same characters in the same mission. It also doesn't make sense she's not even playable anymore on the earlier missions prior to her getting killed.
Here's the kicker, characters have cosmetics you can get to customize them. The replacement character doesn't have any of the customization stuff you get for Heather.
A real mess of a game all around, I played the beta and as expected, the issues that were there are still present in the full release.
Beta is just a way of getting publicity before launch while blocking all criticism because beta nowadays
They actually hired a writer for Payday as of December 2017, but I doubt he worked on TWD.
Can someone explain to me how this shit happens? Like how did Starbreeze put so much money into that reveal website, tie ins, the CG trailers, and for the game to become the focus of development at Overkill for years and then...
This comes out. With human AI clearly ported from Payday (The AI's fucking crouch and shoot animations are identical for fuck's sake, as are their reactions to everything) with buggy as fuck and boring mission and glitches everywhere.
The game was announced over 4 years ago. Where did that development time go? Where? I refuse to believe it was in development until this year.
Honestly, I think it's not really a shocker that Overkill has become a bit of a one-trick pony now. They're really only going to be known for Payday. Any of the other games they seem to be producing all just kinda look the same and have similar mechanics, but are just varying degrees of quality, mostly going down rather than upwards on that curve. I won't pretend to know what happens in the office, but I do find it a little suspect that some people inside the company seem to be moving away from it now.
I just don't think they learned their lesson from Payday 2. It was a barebones game back when it first came out, then they eventually turned around into a pile of excess DLC that again, started out pretty
damn basic, but got a little better over time. At least until it was like a never-ending deluge.
People would probably have been more accepting of this game if Overkill didn't seem to treat it like their secret masterwork project that's been in the works for a few years. They seemed awfully tight
lipped about it at one point, probably not helped by the way the context of its reveal where pretty much nobody wanted it. I forgot what that event was called, but it was like that 34 day countdown that
they certainly milked and assumed people from Payday 2 would be interested in back in 2014.
Not just the 34 day countdown. The random ass steam announcement that was "TOMORROW" followed by "NOW" which was just the reveal of the 34 day counter. Just to string people along with shit like "A crimefest broke out in washington D.C." and other shit that could sound like it could be applied to payday when in reality it was just the announcement of this shit heap. "Don't worry it'll be out roughly two years from now" four years later and here we are .
Overkill with the next level strategy of having a reveal for a reveal of a timer that's a reveal of a vague ass release date that got pushed back anyways.
