McBath, a political newcomer, upset Handel, who beat Democrat Jon Ossoff in last year’s special election ― the most expensive House race in history.
McBath’s victory in the suburban Atlanta district, long a Republican stronghold, could be seen as a turning point for Democrats seeking to change the state from red to purple. McBath’s district, much like the rest of Georgia, has grown increasingly diverse in recent years, with more people of color, and likely Democrats, moving in.
McBath, 58, was thrust into the national spotlight in 2012, when her black 17-year-old son, Jordan Davis, was shot dead at a Florida gas station by a white man complaining about loud music. The killer claimed he was justified under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, but a jury convicted him of first-degree murder.
A two-time breast cancer survivor who worked for decades as a flight attendant, McBath also campaigned for more affordable health care and a higher minimum wage. Her platform called for “common-sense” gun control measures, like background checks, restricting purchases for anyone with a domestic violence history and raising the age to purchase any gun to 21.
So though kemp won governance (abiet being sued left and right over the blatent conflict of interests), a predominately republican district flipped blue.
Gun control is a sham in this country. Taking guns away from law abiding citizens is never going to stop our mass shootings. There is some fundamental soical flaw causing this to happen whether it be poverty or lack of education. We will never fix this problem because once they've enacted "common sense" gun laws it will just keep happening and people will blame the next thing, like violent media or free speech. Guns are heavily restricted in California and look at what happened today. People want immediate results for a problem that's going to take generations to fix.

That's fucked. I can see why she cares about gun control.
What I love is the she wants a "purple" state. Not blue or red, repub or dem. Things be alot nicer if people had her train of thought.
I want an RGB 255,255,255 world.
All of the colors, living in harmony.
:P
It's just nice to see someone wanting to work together, not against each other.
Compromise /= correct
See, I couldn't say "I want a white/black world" because someone would take that as racist. At least now my logic behind it shows
You hear that guys, this guy wants a white world. /s
