• Nancy Pelosi isn't guaranteed to be the next Speaker of the House

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-nancy-pelosi-isnt-guaranteed-the-speakership/ The Democrats have won the House, and Republicans will have to hand over the speaker’s gavel in January. But it’s not totally clear whom that gavel will go to. The long-running drama over the fate of House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is entering a new phase. It has been clear for months that Pelosi might not have enough Democrats behind her to become speaker. Some incumbent House Democrats oppose the California Democrat because they believe it’s time for a new figure to lead the party, which Pelosi has done since 2003. And dozens of Democratic candidates, facing a barrage of attacks from Republicans linking them to Pelosi, pledged during their campaigns not to support her in a speaker vote. Of course, many of Pelosi’s critics were running in very red districts — so they lost. Before the election, NBC News and reporter Ally Mutnick of the National Journal put together lists of Democratic candidates who said they would not support Pelosi either for Democratic leader or for speaker if the Democrats took control of the House. Combining their research with ours, we identified at least 63 anti-Pelosi candidates — 21 of whom won their elections. With a handful of races still unresolved, Democrats have won 224 seats — that number is likely to increase, but it’s hard to see them winning more than 235. Even at that high mark, Pelosi would be four votes short of 218 if the 21 Democrats followed through on their pledge not to support her. The anti-Pelosi faction includes 11 incumbents, some of whom have long been critical of her, like New York’s Kathleen Rice and Ohio’s Tim Ryan. The other 10 will be joining the House with the new class of members in January. The most direct way for Pelosi to become speaker is that at least a few of these anti-Pelosi members backtrack on their campaign pledges. Could that happen? Maybe. Nine of the 21 anti-Pelosi candidates won by more than 20 percentage points. It’s unlikely that voters in fairly liberal-leaning areas will vote out their members in November 2020 over a pro-Pelosi vote in January 2019. Also, it’s not clear there is an obvious person with broad support to replace her, so other House Democrats might convince the anti-Pelosi wing that there is no real alternative. Let’s finish by saying clearly: Lots of gossipy stories about internal Washington machinations ultimately don’t matter. This one does. With Trump in the White House and Mitch McConnell in charge of an enlarged Republican majority in the Senate, the Democratic speaker will have a huge role in determining exactly when and how the party tries to constrain Trump, as well as how or if House Democrats try to work with him on major issues. The Democrats are also trying to come up with a strategy that will increase the chances that the party’s 2020 presidential candidate will win. And the Democrats in the House will have a fairly diverse group both demographically and ideologically. So the speaker has to satisfy not only liberals like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York but also moderates like Conor Lamb of Pennsylvania. None of this will be easy.
In the last ten years the Democrats have been completely wiped out under Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer's leadership. She's objectively bad at her job, and she's ideologically opposed to many of the big policy positions the Democratic base supports. She's gotta go.
Trump gives her respect. That's a huge red flag that she's bad for business. The republicans want her more than the democrats benefit from her.
The Republicans want her because they know she'll run the Democrats into the ground again.
Good, She was along other reasons why Real remaining Left-wing party members were begun disillusioned with Democratic Party in first place.
She is machine politics to the core and it has strangled the party and even further worked over the country.
"Here's how Bernie can still win."
Good riddance. Hope she gets the boot. She's like a weaker willed and even less liked version of Hillary.
If Democrats want to get slaughtered again, just elect Pelosi to house speaker. Its telling when one of the selling points of some democrat candidates this election was "I won't vote for Nancy Pelosi" Not only is she another embodiment of establishment politics, but she has so many bad quotes that make her and the party look stupid.
Alexandria. Ocasio. Cortez.
hope she fucks off to the shadowrealm.
This would be disastrous. Speaker of the House is meant to be a respected, senior official who has the political clout and talent to get a bunch of disparate members of congress with competing interests to focus on certain issues. Ocasio-Cortez is a first-term brand-new congresswoman. Nobody would pay attention to her, and nobody knows how she's going to fare in congressional politicking. Pelosi's clearly competent for the role, but I hope the DNC has learned that pushing for politicians with complicated and controversial baggage-filled history might not be the best idea. Pelosi is literally the most obvious choice possible. Nobody else really fits the bill that well - meaning she'll almost definitely get it. I hope that somebody else can step up to the role, but it's hard to say who else would fit.
Definitely not yet. I'm so incredibly happy Ocasio-Cortez is in the House now, but she should by no means rushed into a higher position. Like, dude, she literally just got elected to her first political position. What are you thinking?
I mean I definitely don't think Cortez should become speaker of the house given her complete lack of experience and likely relationships with the rest of congress, but I don't think any of the 'norms' of the US gov should be followed anymore tbh. Like for what reason should the speaker have to be some old fart that can barely come to grips with the times? Pelosi and Schumer have shown themselves to be utterly useless despite genuinely having "respected" status as well as "political clout and talent"; so why is that a standard to uphold? Changing times call for leadership from the group who will face these issues personally, not some 60+ year old "senior officials" that have shown themselves to be woefully incapable of adapting or working with their base. Cortez doesn't have the experience yet, but I really do think the Dems should aim to install someone their rapidly growing base(among the youth) can actually relate to somewhat, like at least below 50 years old.

So what anymore, And during in Obama era, She suddenly becoming out of touch by ever change ideologically party members as they moving more left-wing (both socially and economically) after Trump’s win.
Maybe because public perception was engineered against her to be a pariah. You are not immune to propoganda.
What propaganda you talking about? And please respelling word Propaganda right, from guy who cannot controlling my grammar.
Imagine becoming one of the most successful speakers of the house in modern history, rallying your caucus to push through a landmark healthcare bill, including votes from members who know full well they could lose their seats, leading the charge on progressive issues, becoming second to none in your ability to rally funds, support, and unity, all to have a group of mouth breathing retards shout you down for not adhering to fact-devoid shitposts by leftists.
Republican propaganda that paints people like Pelosi and Hillary as fucking Pariahs, even to leftist idiots like you. Can you cite any reason to dislike her besides "Grrr not progressive enough"? I fucking support DSA btw, so don't dismiss me as "centrist troll". Please, give me actual positions she holds and votes and points she's made to dislike. The obamacare she got passed in the house had the public option, the senate with Joe Liberman killed it. I can think of a few criticisms of her myself, but nothing surmountable enough to call her "A republican leading the democrats."
Plus, I looked up where you referred she “is” member of Congressional Progressive caucus, Well she isn’t member anymore for while ever since she becoming House (minority) leader and likely “ideological shifting” during that period.
https://www.newsmax.com/politics/medicare-for-all-public-option-nancy-pelosi-house-majority/2018/06/07/id/864844/ wow she supports Medicare for All, or at minimum a public option. Shocker.
You freaken joking, I clearly don’t believe their crap as kid. And I preferred only (less attempted not being biased ones) Left-wing Alternative media from YouTube left like Secular Talk or Humanist Report.
https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/391214-pelosi-medicare-for-all-should-be-evaluated-if-dems-win-house Literally has a video in the newsmax source btw. Also you don't have to be a republican or support their policies to buy into their propaganda in certain areas. She has ALWAYS supported a public option, and is open to medicare for all. She also opposed Bill Clinton's welfare reform. Almost like the political transformation she had was becoming Speaker of the House and then being a prime target for hatred? There's plenty of things I can criticize her on, not meeting some arbitary purity test of not being progressive enough and the vague notion of being "CORPORATE DEMONRAT" isn't one of them.
Sure, even dare criticized Democratic Politicians current actions and who tires to pandering left-wing party members who fell disfranchise by ever lean Right-wing DNC. Is somehow automatically 'Republican propaganda due of tribalistic crap' but not also Anti-Democrat but non-partisan (and Anti-)Republican propaganda? But regardless, Its pretty too late for that anyway, especially she done on herself to adopting DINO/Republican-like behavior on others issues e.x Economical or International issues has made people minds up and especially within more left-wing and anti-establishment circles in Party.
what the hell is republican-like behavior? is this a "no true scotsman" type of deal?
I'm not a Republican. And I clearly hating that party on any reasons but I have right to criticized the Democratic Party current actions (especially with most politicians like Pelosi).
ok. but what do you mean by the phrase "republican-like behavior"? is there a certain metric for this or is it just them not conforming to your image of a democrat?
If you heard DINO (Democrat In Name Only), Which is that supposedly accusing certain Democrats like Pelosi for not feel along to modern current state of party's standards. That was why I calling out her for having 'Republican-like behavior'.
Scroll up, look at her voting record, and tell me she's a "Democrat in name only"
