https://www.rt.com/business/443516-boe-refuse-venezuela-gold/ The Bank of England (BoE) is refusing to release around $550 million in gold owned by Venezuela back to the country over the UK regulator's claim of growing uncertainty about Caracas’s intentions for the 14 tons of gold bars. British officials are insisting that measures aimed at preventing money-laundering are taken, The Times reports. The Venezuelan government is reportedly expected to provide a clarification about its plans for the gold. There are concerns that Mr. Maduro may seize the gold, which is owned by the state, and sell it for personal gain,” the media reports citing unnamed sources. BS I say - the gold is probably already gone. Same shenanigans occurred in 1971 between America and France.
Just a couple of years back people were suspicious that the gold that belonged to Germany that was held in the Fed in New York had disappeared.
Damn, the Serbs figured us out! How could they have known we used it for her majesty the Queen's private hot tub! But seriously, Venezuela is in such a shitshow they most likely would just sell it for private gain. They have no real other use for it.
I mean, they could use it to try and stabilize their country, but what would probably happen is that shitheads would make off with as much of it as they could.
I'm surprised this is legal. Did banks always have the power to prevent withdrawals because they thought you wouldn't be responsible with the money?
I dunno, but they definitely fucking shouldn't. Often it's a sign that they don't actually have the cash, similar things happen when people go to withdraw their money during times of crisis
How, when, where, and why could we secretly smuggle out/dispose of/utilize 14 tonnes of Venezuelan gold without anyone finding out? Sounds line conspiratorial wanking to me.
The sad thing is also that 550 million is a pittance in comparison to the needs of most nations. If we take cost reports from Vancouver as any estimate, the gold mentioned here would be enough for about 10 highway renovation projects. Nothing short of the most frugal and non-corrupt use of this money would do much good.
Often? I don't suppose you have any evidence to support this claim?
