This is made fully in-house by Valve, it is not the Vive which is made by HTC in cooperation with Valve.
thank god, fuck HTC
They're also trying what may be another shot at a Steam console with the "Valve Index" patent.
It always confused me that they didn't do this in the first place, considering the modest success of the Steam Controller. They clearly knew what they were doing by that point.
Holy shit. I wonder about the price.
not only that but valve managed to completely automate production of the steam controller which was quite impressive.
Their updated article says that their "Sources" confirm 135 degree FoV, the Knuckles controllers coming with this HMD, and a Half-Life prequel game in VR.
The Half-Life part sounds like trolling by whichever Valve employee leaked the HMD. Knuckles controllers coming with this is very believable though.
If the Knuckles do indeed come with this, time for an upgrade to my Rift.
I do not trust Valve with hardware at all. I had nothing but problems using the Vive and SteamVR for over 2 years before I finally gave in and just got a Rift instead.
I want it to be good, but I don't think Valve are capable of managing a product like this.
Are you aware the Vive hardware is made by HTC and not Valve? Valve is mainly doing the software side (SteamVR).
Rumor has it they contracted Aperture Science for the automated production.

The software side was the part I had the most issues with, the hardware performed exactly as it should. Frequently SteamVR would crash, or cause issues in terms of room scale tracking (I love my height being changed everytime I put the headset on, and I shouldn't need the advanced settings plugin to fix this). Right to the end of me using my Vive I was unable to use the front webcam on the Vive as it would cause SteamVR to crash. Due to the Nvidia drivers for the 1070 being incomplete on the 1070 launch, I was unable to use my Vive properly for a couple of months due to the mini DP -> DP issue where it wasn't even working.
Why? All 2 of their first party hardware products are solid as hell.
Valve seems to agree with you, given the fact they're making their own and not with HTC...
Off topic, but excuse me what the fuck
Why did he record a YouTube video, which was already clipped perfectly, only to clip that clip and just create this inception level bullshit where he's recording a recording
Was thinking the same thing. Was annoyed I couldn't find a better quality video.
Half-Life prequel
???
It's a strategy game based in the offices of black mesa in vein of sim games where you have to balance employee safety, sanity, and productivity while building your facility on a budget
heres everything gathered - leaked about the prequel game

Yea about that...

I just want them to release the fucking PC case. It was a Node 202 but better.
According to VNN he's been told from multiple sources HLVR is a prequel to Half-Life 2, not Half-Life 1.
I wouldn't listen to rumors and only believe anything once the game is out, if it comes out.
Yeah, if it comes out. I wouldn't be surprised if after a couple of leaks the entire thing goes silent and we never hear about this project again until years later when somebody from Valve randomly confirms it was cancelled in a Twitter reply. I have zero faith in Valve to actually ship anything worthwhile. They've been talking about releasing VR games for years now and we still don't know anything at all other than that those VR titles are still floating around somewhere in Bellevue in development.
That would make the Combine barrier particle effects in that GitHub link that testinglol make a lot more sense.
Literally everyone could have predicted that Half Life VR was just going to be an excuse to sell an expensive piece of hardware. Because Valve doesn't consider 60 dollars per copy from a standard singleplayer game to be profitable enough anymore. The only single player games they will ever make again are VR tech demos, because their development costs can be justified to the greedy fucks in management by the fact that they're a carrot on a stick to get people to spend hundreds of dollars on a VR headset.
Maybe it's Gordon and Barney escaping a room via the vents, like Alyx mentioned.
For not saying that VNN is one of the most unreliable sources about Valve that one could listen to, half the time they are making mistakes for not analyzing first the information.
It is known since years that Valve had as their primary objective their fully assult into VR, so we will see if their experiment is sucessful as it is with their gamepad.
Valve is raking in money from Steam. What purpose would be an incredibly risky hardware endeavour into a barely-existent genre? If they were really in it for the money here, they'd cut back on development of anything that isn't reliably monetised (eg Steam, microtransactions) especially after Steam Machines failed spectacularly and their HTC partnership went sideways.
I never saw any predictions that HLVR was an excuse to sell hardware. Is there actually any issue with that? If the game is quality it's good for everyone that the VR space expands with new customers and games. It's not HL3 either, so there's no complaining that Valve is manipulating fans either. It's a side-game to demonstrate new tech and show they're still interested in Half-Life. So long as it's not a microtransaction shitfest like Diablo: Immortal I don't really see a reason to complain.
Most VNN sources are very carefully considered and end up right almost every time jsyk
I'm not mad that Half Life VR exists, nor do I expect it to be on the level of a full-fledged sequel. I'm mad that Half Life 3 and Left4Dead3 were both reportedly in production before being canceled - and with what we know about how Valve currently works, it's because working on a groundbreaking single player game for multiple years is a surefire way to get passed over for bonuses and/or fired. Employees' bonuses and job security are literally tied to how much money they bring in every fiscal year - not how many sales they might make if they were allowed to finish a damn thing. I'm also fairly sure the biggest reason Artifact has essentially been rubber stamped by Gabe himself is because of its' revolutionary business model that triple dips players. They were allowed to work on and perfect its gameplay for multiple years while receiving generous bonuses only because it is guaranteed to print money the moment it drops.
