reminder that China is now the Cyberpunk Dystopia we've been warned about in fiction
The best defense against the totalitarian surveillance program has already been implemented.

walking like a jackass and looking like an asshole is going to be in fashion
So, think this thing can identify the Chad Stride?
I believe that technology can recognize patterns of a person's subconscious walk, but that's the only extend of it: subconscious.
“Using biometric recognition to maintain social stability and manage society is an unstoppable trend,” he said. “It’s great business.”
who needs digital footprint? your life is now in someone's database ready to blackmail you to hell.
Get the fuck away from me china.

I foresee the use of really long coats to combat this
for a moment I thought China was developing software for ID Software
My brain works funny
Except instead of corps they have an orwellian government.
and instead of a cool bad guy intention like more money they're just assholes for no reason
That explains the character design in most cyberpunk games and movies.
I'm kinda shocked at this point that the rest of the world is just letting China be the world-leaders in keeping track of their own people. You'd think with current trends, some western country would have interest in this sort of tech too.
Pretty sure the west is just plain better at pretending they aren't.
Also another problem in any case, to use the US for example - The population distribution is all spread out and even within cities they're not really dense enough. China's population distribution and development is almost entirely concentrated on their eastern coast which makes it easy to set up comprehensive mass-surveillance.
他媽的,我只想說出來。 約翰列儂應該為這次散步而死。
I misread walk as 'wank'
Put small pebble in shoe, walk funny. Check fucking mate.
That's pretty much what happened in this book I read when I was younger.
Was one of those "in the near future" type books, where the US got all these surveillance tech, and this school got sued to hell for having facial recognition cameras.
So they got these gait recognition cameras as a legal loophole. The MC and his friends defeat it with pebbles in the shoe
Yoko Ono?
That is scary and I hope that we will fight against this if it ever comes in the west massively.
Gaitial recognition
♪ well you can tell by the way I use my walk I'm a Chinese man, no time to block ♪
They're not that cruel.
What incentive do western countries have for such extreme surveillance? Unlike China, power in western countries is split up too much for that. There's no centralized entity that'd benefit from monitoring people and no economic prospects that'd outweigh the risks for private companies to commercialize surveillance. For now anyway.

why bother when we'll be getting this
Mark Nixon lectured me in first year and showed us some of his work - it's incredibly interesting but I'm not sure he meant for it to be used in the way it is. That said, you can throw this off by wearing a badly fitted pair of shoes or whatever but that is pretty uncomfortable (and obvious to people around you).
