i read the article and while his choice of words is undisputably pretty awful, i think his sentiment is right in that the symbolism of the poppy has been misappropriated slightly in this country; while his comparing it to christmas being banned might seem inane at first i think he's framing that in relation to asking why the poppy isn't banned too but i'm not sure as again, the wording is pretty shit and the meaning is hidden behind huge bias

Tbh they're half right but completely exaggerating the extent. Every year the poppy is used as a way to rag on Muslims. Lies are made up about all muslims hating poppies and outright falsehoods about certain places banning it. These are put into neat posts for uninformed middle-aged people to share on Facebook because if it's an image it must be true. I disagree that the poppy is a racist symbol, but racists utilise the virtue of the poppy in order to push their racist agenda, and people like this author completely overextend and say the poppy is racist instead of saying that racists utilise the poppy to push their narrative. Peaceful and normal people need to undermine these false stories when they see them to stop people like this author pulling this shit.
