https://www.polygon.com/2018/11/12/18088288/five-nights-at-freddys-movie-delayed-new-aaa-game-in-the-works “I had a script written,” Cawthon said. “Jason [Blum] liked it, and Chris Columbus liked it too, but I tossed it. I had a different idea for it, one that I liked better. I take responsibility for this delay; it’s my fault.” “I’m sticking to what I’ve always said, either the right movie gets made or no movie gets made,” Cawthon explained. “I hate delaying a project that’s already seen so many delays, but I have to go with my instincts on what I think will be exciting and interesting, and what I think the fanbase will really want to see. If that means that I have to start over ten more times, then that’s what I’m going to do. The good thing is that each attempt gets better and better, in my opinion. So, despite the delays, it’s going in the right direction.” lmao this project is starting to look like a massive mess. Idk who had the brilliant idea to let the game creator write an entire movie script all by himself when those games always had like, a tiny hint of storyline to them, but great call lol. also the article mentions this as well There’s also a “AAA” game based on the series, although it’s said to be very early in development. “There is a BIG deal in the works to create an incredible big-budget game!” Cawthon said. “I can’t reveal any details yet as this project is still in its planning stages, but I’m working closely with the studio involved to ensure that it delivers what (I think) FNAF fans will want to see!” i hope ur all ready for AAA FNAF
Well at least Scott has control of the thing.
I don't exactly know how you'd do this movie without it being anything but campy.
fnaf but the real horror is Scott realizing how shit the film industry is!
I remember back when the first game was released the idea behind it and hints at could really going on were quite interesting. The stuff like the "they'll think you're an endoskeleton without a suit" explanation didn't really add up and stuff like Freddie's "creation" phonecall made it clear weren't as simple as they seemed with the animatronics, it had the potential to go in all sorts of interesting ways....and then it turns out it's just ghosts. It it had gone for some sort of actual malfunctioning animations or AI or something like that, that would have been a much more interesting premise.
to be fair, he's also the one responsible for this: https://youtu.be/jKPxYst1q_E so I'm not exactly surprised, the guy does what he fucking wants its amazing you gotta respect his complete lack of fucks to be given
this is the most unholy thing i have ever seen
Funny since Scott is a devout Christian.
I bet MatPat is already writing his episode on the movie.
Probably had one ready, then threw out the script. ¯\_(ツ)_/ ¯
I'm more excited for the FNAF Battle Royale tie in movie game.
I don't think you have to include the game mechanic in the movie, just the setting, background story, and characters
what the fuck there's gonna be ANOTHER FNAF? cmon scott give us the desolate abandon or the desolate hope 2 already
Considering some of his videos, i don't think he's ever thrown out a script.
there's gonna be two more at least according to this article - a VR game, and a AAA big studio game lol
Well it seems to be an unpopular opinion, but I thought the movie had some potential behind it I got sick of FNaF after the first one like most people did, but I'll still say to this day it's a genius concept for what it was, and I thought even though it was a thoroughly video gamey concept, it invoked a unique enough style to make some sort of film adaption that would both be worthwhile and super unique. Unfortunately, FNaF is one of those series where the fanbase really has affected it for me. I don't even mean how I find them annoying, I've just been exposed to so much silly content relating to FNaF that I just don't find it scary. When FNaF first came out, I found the idea of these possibly haunted animatronic figures really fucking cool. I mean everyone did, right? In a few short years, though, the idea is firmly ingrained in my head as a schlock. Pure schlock. I'm kind of amazed how fast that happened, and by purely the communities own hand. I never played any of them after the first one. So I've come to realize that I probably wouldn't enjoy the movie anyway, since the horror is truly and thoroughly ruined. Guess they should have pushed it out faster.
One of his artist, PinkiePill, make porn/lewd in her blog & also make gore of the purple guy & porn gore of the purple guy.
You say that, but even people who created the thing in the first place can create some pretty terrible film adaptions. Steven King as an example, he created some utter crap when he had control.
I just hope they stick to practical effects like they originally planned on doing.
That was with the first director who already left that project lol. Chris Columbus is directingt this now and that guy fucking loves CGI like nobody else. So you should probably abandon that hope
I'm going to shit my whole ass if the one movie that has every reason to use practical animatronics does not use practical animatronics
where you really actually going to watch the movie in the first place?
if reviews were positive I probably would give it a shot even if not my little sibling is a huge FNAF fan and I'd probably tag along to go see it
Genuine question: It seems like every other videogame adaption gets completely mangled script-wise (Super Mario Bros Movie, The new Sonic movie etc), taking the setting and characters in a completely unwarranted directions. How come Scott of all people seem to have complete control over the script?
Hmmm, I guess because he's indie? Is there a precendent for an indie gamemaker that had his IP made into a movie?
It's because he's A: Indie, and B: the game is ultra successful. In the case of mangled scripts, it's because some dumb fuck IP holders are trying to churn a quick buck while giving zero fucks about the source, and so they pass it off to the highest bidder who is also someone just trying to churn a quick buck. Because Scott runs the show and cares, he can ensure he gets the right crew. And because the game was super successful, people want to make a movie on it so they can get in on the $$$$. it's a rare as fuck combination
Scott 100% owns the rights, he's never sold out and I'm sure is still the only person working on the games (at least fulltime). Which means he is now a VERY rich man, and can tell people who approach him with licensing deals to fuck off ( in a Godly way) if things don't suit him.
Say what you will, Maximum Overdrive is one of my favorite so bad its good movies. Biggest issue is that what makes a good book/video game/tv series/etc, doesn't always work in film. Its not interactive, you can only show what the audience can see and hear, and you only get about 2 hours on average to do it. Its actually pretty limiting. So while being masters of their own craft, they don't know anything about making movies, or at least, not enough to make a good one. Usually, the correct way to do it, is to consult the creator on lore and world details. However when it comes to the actual technicals of filmmaking, its best to leave it to the people that know what they are doing. And unfortunately, that sometimes does involve making changes to the creator's vision, because it may simply not work in a film.
Don't forget The Langoliers.
