LA Musician Fakes Fanbase to Schedule European Tour, Sets Intern..
As reported by numerous music news websites (Metal Sucks did a really detailed report), there's this guy from Los Angeles, California who faked his own fanbase and managed to book a European tour. The guy's name is Jered and he leads his band called Threatin. Which is pretty much him playing all the instruments and doing all the singing. But don't worry, he hired three musicians for the tour. According to numerous detailed reports besides the mentioned one (BBC, NME, Metro), he bought YouTube views, Facebook likes, fake event attendees, and lied about ticket sales numbers in order to book gigs in certain European clubs.
And like this wasn't enough, he even did some fake live videos where you can see the footage of packed venues and him playing on the stage. However, there is never a single shot of both him and the audience from the stage. You can check out this brilliant montage in the player below.

There have been a number of new developments since this initial story was first published, including the revelation that Threatin created a fake record label, phony press outlet, nonexistent award and more to promote his band, two band members quitting mid-tour, live footage surfacing and more.

One of his fake Facebook pages dates back to 2011. I thought the bought views and fake sites were absurd enough, but he's been at this for a while.

"Originally I was told that we would receive a flat fee of $300 for the tour and that all expenses would be paid. That wasn't a lot of money for all the time and effort but it was agreed by the backing band that this would be a good opportunity to have on our resumes. Roughly two days before we left for London, we were informed that the $300 was actually meant for food money. My carry on suitcase ended up being too big to carry on, and I had to cover the $100 fee it cost to check an extra bag."
Basically, "Jered Threatin" lied to the band too and they had no idea he was a fraud. After a few empty shows the articles started appearing and they had a discussion to cancel the tour. The bassist only stayed on with Jered because he needed a way back home.
They say entertainment is about taking it until you make it. But they don't mean you should fake being like fucking Nirvana right out of the gate. You gotta do it within reason. Oversell yourself just a little to get slightly better deals or to make people think you are cooler in your ads. Don't fucking book an international tour when you can barely get one fucking fan.
As long as its Jace Conners level of commitment its gun be good.

I just want to say that 'Threatin' is a fucking weird and dumb band name. I am not even sure how to pronounce it.
His name is Jered, Jered lost his mind eating Subway sandwiches and now he's touring Europe to play to a non-existent audience.
For what it's worth, he's now getting his 20 seconds of fame.
Kind of a douche move considering the number of struggling small music venues there are (this 'band' was booked to play in a venue I've frequented that recently sold itself as shares to the local music community, I can guess they were not happy)
