Midlothian Police Chief Daniel Delaney said that's when one of his officers "encountered a subject with a gun" and shot him, according to a statement given to the media. But the "subject" was Roberson, not the suspect in the bar shooting. Witnesses say Roberson was wearing his uniform, including a hat emblazoned with the word "security," and was holding a firearm he was licensed to carry. Midlothian police confirmed that two officers responded to the scene at the bar on Sunday and that one of them opened fire.
Jesus, how the fuck can you not identify someone acting according to their duties. He was uniformed and announced himself as security.
pretty pathetic first response is to shoot first.
Also, even if he didn't it's still terrible practice to go in guns blazing to a potential hostage situation.
People were literally shouting at the cops that he was security and they still shot him.
He was uniformed and doing his job, and he was shot for it. I hope the cop who killed him rots in jail.
She added that Roberson had dreamed of being a police officer. "He was getting ready to train and do all that stuff, so the very people he wanted to be family with, took his life," Hill said.
Nah, what will most likely happen is that he gets a slap on the wrist or some other BS excuse; people protest, people get angry at the posters and finally, we forget this ever happen until the next trigger happy cop shoots the wrong person.
There is no oversight of police beyond the county level. No state or federal.
The fact that police have no skills in situational awareness/analysis makes me so mad. I understand that sometimes seconds matter, but clearly they didn't want to put in the effort for this man. I hope this cop actually gets punished
Jesus christ. Suddenly Im real glad for the RCMP I had assumed the US had updated their law system to be a bit more connected than it was in the fucking old west
There are state troopers but they tend to stay to highways, and when poor counties physically can't afford police. The earliest organized police here were basically gangs that fought the criminal gangs.
"Systemic racism doesn't exist in America." Hah.
We really need to, but the problem is, due to the way the US is federated, every state has their own laws, and every county is left to manage their enforcement. All we have in terms of higher level law enforcement are state police who pretty much just watch highways, and a couple FBI units that go after major interstate crimes. Within their own jurisdiction, law enforcement answers to pretty much nobody.
The United States will never not have it in some fashion. Never
police on a national level need to have some kind of de-escalation training or something. This is straight up murder. The only thing they do currently is take a bad situation and escalate it even further.
Even out of police shootings is mostly white people shooting black cops
His buddies in blue will go to great lengths to make sure he doesn't get a day in prison because they all have to look out for each other and shit like that.
Take a good, hard, long look at that child. That's a child that will have to grow up without their father, who was effectively executed without trial for the crime of doing his fucking job. I hope that weight crushes the cop who shot him for the rest of his life.
I still don't get that whole "we gotta stick together" mindset, shit if my friend killed a guy despite every single thing to the contrary saying "don't kill this guy" you bet I'd fucking dob him in.
The issue is that those good cops then get sent out to dangerous situations, restrained to desk duty, or just straight bullied out of the job by other cops who want to be free to frame or kill innocent civilians if they want to.
Midlothian police officer who fatally shot security guard Jemel .. The Midlothian police officer who fatally shot security guard Jemel Roberson on Sunday at a bar in Robbins has been placed on administrative leave, officials told the Daily Southtown on Tuesday. The officer, who has not been identified, has worked for the department for seven years and is a member of the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, officials said. How do you work for the police for seven years and make such a huge mistake?
This is the saddest thing
ah yes the officer was put in time out, he will surely learn his lesson and come out of this humbled and enlightened. justice is served everyone
The officer, who has not been identified, has worked for the department for seven years and is a member of the South Suburban Emergency Response Team, officials said. Take a look at the SSERT website
If you do something shitty like this guy did, it doesn't just reflect badly on yourself but it reflects badly on the entire department.
Police culture in this country needs to be redressed.
Welcome to America. Why are you acting surprised?
Ok, so when will we get a headline where a white cop shoots a black cop
What the fuck. Almost always these stories are coming from the US
