Trump administration to cut air pollution from heavy-duty trucks

Donald Trump’s administration plans to cut air pollution from heavy-duty trucks, marking one of its first moves to regulate US industry rather than roll back environmental standards.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will start writing a rule to require new trucks produce less nitrogen oxide, which contributes to smog and particulate matter pollution that causes breathing problems, asthma attacks and early deaths.
The standards were last updated nearly two decades ago, and environmental advocates lauded the effort but said the details will matter.

EPA acting administrator, Andrew Wheeler, told reporters in a call ahead of the formal announcement on Tuesday that the agency will also “cut unnecessary red tape” for truck makers. And the agency is weighing a separate proposal to nix air pollution limits for trucks with rebuilt engines, which critics say is a massive loophole that will lead to dirtier air.

there it is
Figured it was too good to be true. And I was just about to say "welp, credit where it's due".
I guess this administration's clock is so busted it can't even manage the "twice a day" bit.
Deregulate everything! Surely nothing can go wrong?! /s
Yeah bullshit
We will defeat China by outdoing them.
And here I was, thinking the Trump administration would do something good for once.
Oh, naivety.
expect a glider truck exemption
Every time this kind of situation comes up, someone will see the short term consequences. Some time down the line, these trucks will have reliability issues that will put off the negative effects onto the truckers (and the cargo on the trucks) themselves. Sometime later we will be gone because "climate change be librul hoax".
So busted the hands have already fallen off.
this has the added effect of trucking companies not buying new trucks, just popping in new engines that aren't tuned well.
So this will hurt american truck manufacturers too.
