Not gonna lie, when I heard him state, "Oh its nipping! It must be a crucian carp!" and I looked at the bobber and how the hits were playing out, part of me knew that it was a common carp. Common Carps always hang out close to shore like that, and are pretty intelligent with bait pickups. If its bread, they'll suck on it through nearby rocks, but with worms they'll just pick them up and swim off with it. They also have the lovely tendeancy of being the fish you are not going after, so you are left in situations like this. Underweight line, rod not meant for bringing in big ol' bois, and then having to put up with carps and their unique ability to constantly tie your line under any structure.
Seriously, carp are wonderful fighters. If any of you guys are into fishing, try going after them over Bass and Pike. You will not regret the fight.
