Big news, wonder what offences still incur the death penalty.
Without looking it up, it's probably treason and certain military offences.
Not bad, maybe the newspaper tomorrow will have more details.
Looking through local posts, many are not supportive of this. Reasons being "criminal scums now get to live wow they won't be afraid of the law anymore RIP country safety". Oh bother...
Oh boy.
Why the death penalty should not be abolished | Free Malaysia To..
Human rights advocates, in most cases, are only armchair critics.
Says the armchair critic. Did put up convincing points tho.
Still, there is a Western and Eastern divide, where one supports rights while another demands order. Most here do not believe in second chances after being branded criminal: If the law says you committed a serious crime, you should die (well you will want to die anyways once prejudice kicks in). Should also explain the lack of empathy and understanding of lower social classes...
Come over the border! We still do that!
Death penalty should be reserved for the worst crimes where the criminal cannot be introduced into society, not redeemable. Cheaper to kill someone than have them in jail for 70 years.
The downside with death penalty is that sometimes innocent people will get wrongly convicted and killed.
To my eyes recurring to the same act is lowering yourself to said criminal. We could talk intention, prevention, let God sort them out, eye for an eye, or how to put down a person in the most painless and humane way possible depending of the case but at the end it is the same.
Killing a murderer is an easy escape for them because they don't value life, and for the eyes of many that means they don't deserve The Rest as soon as they are caught.
But I have to admit I doubt I'd say anything of this again if the family of a victim asks me if I would think the same after losing someone important to me.
No, it isn't. The legal costs of the death penalty outweigh the cost of life imprisonment, and can't be reduced without raising the number of innocent people being executed. The death penalty is a terrible idea in all cases.
fuck this shitty ass country
I'm not really knowledgeable of the governing history of Malaysia, but I hope it won't suffer through a Duterte and continue its progress with more sensible governing bodies
From what I can see the opposing party is still in shambles so maybe society will keep up with the more progressive government by the time they pick themselves back up
I don't want to sound condescending but from my point of view most Malaysians are conservatives and too far deep into hedonism to be knowledgeable about politics.
The previous election is basically just a vote of popularity to kick the corrupt scoundrel out.
We kept chasing after the 'Singapore standards' and anything that steers away from that is going to upset people.
