It's been a while since the disaster, and while I remember the news threads on FP as it was happening, I don't think this comprehensive retrospective of the events was ever posted.
I'm surprised the disaster is still remembered and analized even outside of Italy up to this day.
If anyone wants to know the epilogue of the whole thing, the ship's captain was found guilty of the disaster due to his inexcusable neglicence and imprudence and sentenced to 16 years in prison on 17th May 2017
