• Keyboard number row doesn't work on first click

On my mom's laptop, the numbers in the number row don't work on the first click (usually 1-3 and 8-0) and when you try to type special characters such as !@#, they refuse to work unless I type something else beforehand (like %). Google says that the drivers might be bad, I uninstalled them from the device manager and after rebooting it worked for a bit but now it's back to being broken. I know it's a good keyboard because it has been recently replaced and only lightly used. Any way to fix this without replacing the keyboard again? There are no keyboard drivers on lenovo's website.
I'd double check and make sure that the keyboard language in Windows is set correctly. Whenever I've had problems with my keyboard acting strange it was because it got set to another language. If that checks out then I'd verify that the keyboard cable in the laptop if connected properly and isn't loose. It's also possible the keyboard is simply defective out of the box and needs to be replaced. Keyboards generally don't need any drivers to just simply type (in my experience anyway), they just "work".
I have had these issues with old laptops. the ribbon cable some how came loose.
I tried re-seating the ribbon cable and even resetting windows but it still doesn't want to work (at least on windows). I'll have to try a linux distro just to check if it's windows related, if it's the keyboard i'll probably tell her to use an external one, the built in keyboard is garbage anyway.
Yeah the keyboard ended up being the culprit. Apparently even "new" keyboards are cheap chinese knock-offs unless you order directly from lenovo (or get one from a broken laptop) so watch out for that.
