"Is there an issue of systemic racism within Canada's healthcare system?" It's fucking genocide.

what the fuck canada?
the fuck Canada?
My fellow Canadians being horrible to Native Americans? Business as usual I see.
Of-fucking-course it was Canada. I really don't understand how there's not more talk about Canada's genocidal actions towards native Americans, they've just strangely flown under the radar for so long now, I guess that's partially why they apparently haven't stopped yet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compulsory_sterilization_in_Canada this has actually been a thing for awhile even more horribly
Unironically the best use of this meme/reaction. I would never expect this out of Canada.
Jesus Christ I had no idea. How barbaric.
What the fuck?
Psh, "barbaric" is killing all the Native Americans off like savages. What we do is humanely obliterate their culture and way of life over time. The "Indian act" is still in effect and is working perfectly as intended. (I don't actually condone this behavior I have Native-American heritage myself)
That's some nice fucking eugenics you've got their Canada. Fuck are you doing?

No offense but seriously how in every circle of hell did this manage to keep going for so long? Like, just for reference the aforementioned Alberta sterilization law passed in 1928, that's the same year that the US Interior Department put together the Meriam Report, sparking the first efforts by the US to reform and make amends its treatment of native peoples.
To all the people who are surprised at this, this is pretty much par for the course when it comes to how Canada treats its natives; there's an endless list of bullshit similar to this. It's by no means a fun pursuit, but it's good to have a further look to get a perspective of how even the "good" countries are...not so good. Rule of thumb: if a country has native peoples, they're treated like shit.
In the 1951 amendments to the Indian Act, paragraph 12(1)(b) initiated that a status Indian woman who married a man who was not a status Indian became non-status. Subjecting Aboriginal female status to that of their father or husband, the Canadian government applied gender bias requirements to the legal status of Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Without legal status, Aboriginal women are unable to access treaty benefits, practice inherent rights to live on their reserve, inherit family property or be buried on reserve with ancestors. However, these conditions did not apply to status Indian men who married non-status women; these men were able to keep their status. Goddamn Canada
holy fucking shit I didn't know canada was somehow worse than us at something. What the fuck canada?? This shit better explode.
That is not very polite now, is it?
this is one area of our culture and history that we can't just say "sorry, eh?" we have the same capacity to be horrible like any other western nation
Hey thats an american thing, stop bogarting our culture
Canadians have a long history of fucking over the natives, Americans don't have sole ownership over that.

Fucking, this is still happening? Jesus jackhammering my ass Christ, I thought this shit ended in the 70s and 80s but nope we never learn from our mistakes. Also, yeah, hi, we're nice friendly polite Canada and everyone loves us, just don't look at how we're continuing to propagate institutionalized racism against the natives because yeeeaaaahhhh it's been shit and it seems to be going on hella more recent than I was aware. There are still native reservations without running water and other basic services of modern life. The north is particularly bleak, where you have entire communities where hope is a thing that people get to have elsewhere. Youth huff paint fumes to get high because it's an escape from the crushing depression and dysfunction in their communities. And being really poor and poorly-educated a depressing percentage of the time means the First Nations bands are rarely in a position to sue the Canadian government or the provincial/municipal authorities if they're being discriminated against or their community is being disadvantaged, so the status quo is, sadly, maintained most of the time.
They were also fucking over natives before the country was founded
It won't, sadly. I'll be surprised if it does.
Whoever is responsible for or otherwise involved in this deserves a fucking bullet to the head. This is disgusting.
Apparently so do I. A cousin of mine was doing some assignment for school and asked about our family lineage on Ancestry. A few people responded and apparently my family can trace their ancestry back to "Ots-Toch"; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ots-Toch IIRC a lot of people can trace their ancestry back to Ots-Toch. I haven't looked into getting native status because the percentage of Mohawk I am is probably less than a percent. That, and I'm not sure whether or not the stuff the people on Ancestry said was even correct. It could've just been a guess by someone for all I know.
1) Why on Earth is this happening? 2) Why has it been happening for this long? 3) Why has no one pulled the breaks to stop this from happening? 4) Why did I not even hear about this until now? 5) Why is this not on the front page of every western newspaper? 6) Why Canada of all places? I knew things down here were pretty rotten, I knew that even Canada has its own skeletons, but Jesus Christ... why? How could something this awful be happening? 7) What the hell can we do to stop this?
Guess where the first European landing in North America was
