Jacob Rees-Mogg, the outspoken chair of the backbench European Research Group of Brexiters, has called for a vote of no confidence in Theresa May, on the most perilous day of her premiership.
Rees-Mogg, the MP for North Somerset, who rejected May’s Brexit deal just moments after it was published on Wednesday night, announced that he was sending a letter to Sir Graham Brady, the chair of the backbench 1922 Committee, calling for a vote of no confidence.
His decision came while May was continuing to face a barrage of questions from MPs about her Brexit deal – and while Downing Street was still reeling from a string of resignations, most damagingly that of the Brexit secretary, Dominic Raab.
I know this is like laughing at your pilot for not being able to fly the aircraft you're on, but goddamn is this hilarious to watch.
I kinda want Mogg to win the leadership, just so the Brexiteers can actually take some fucking responsibility for the utter omnishambles Brexit is shaping up to be.
haha yes elect rees mogg to own the brexiteers
ur also owning every lgbt person in the country but who cares about that right
LGBT concerns won't be addressed when Brexit happens anyway - putting a pro-Brexit spokesman and TMay critic at the head just highlights how insubstantial they really are.
His punishment for failure would be being disliked while he retires to his castle on a significant pension. The problem, in fact, is that pushing the country back by 100 years just means that Jacob Rees-Mogg would only 50 years out of date.
The Prime Minister doesn't really have the authority to change LGBT stuff unilaterally. Theresa May is hardly pro-LGBT either. My point was merely that I don't want it to be the case where Brexiteers can say for the next decades that Brexit only failed to revitalise Britain due to a 'remoaner' being in power during its process.
May-May is holding a press conference any minute now. Probably not resigning yet but it'll be likely be a roast no matter what.
The claim will then be that Rees-Mogg was sabotaged by the EU and remainer MPs.
Rees Mogg is a very intelligent bloke. He won't put his name on it despite supporting it because that's looking more and more like political suicide, instead he'll play kingmaker for someone else.
We all know how this story plays out

I agree. It frustrates me when people call people on the opposing side of political issues dumb just because of their views. I do, however, think his opinions are not often well-reasoned.
Who would win, the unstoppable Jake Mogg or one megaphone boi?

All reece mogg and the hard brexit brigade gotta do is keep on delaying and obstructing so we get no deal. I suspect this is just a move to undermine negotiations and leave us with nothing.
His opinions are fairly well-reasoned when you consider that everything he suggests benefits him and his or reflects the policies of the Catholic church. All his opinions are wholly typical of someone with his aristocratic, business, 'Britain-first' populism (again, because he's a smart bloke) and Catholic background. I'm just surprised that enough people in his constituency identify personally enough with his policies and his personality as a toff to consistently vote him in.
He's the ultimate Tory Toff stereotype but because he supports brexit he automatically becomes a man of the people
