Hyde-Smith isn't even the worst Mississippi politician, that goes to Karl Oliver. On May 20, 2017, Oliver submitted a Facebook post stating that the Louisiana lawmakers who supported removing Confederate monuments from their state "should be LYNCHED". He made the statement following the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee, the last of a group of Confederate monuments removed from New Orleans, Louisiana. His statement compared the take-down of the monuments to book burning and Nazism. House Speaker Philip Gunn condemned Oliver's statement, and stripped him of his vice-chairmanship of the House Forestry Committee. Oliver's district includes the town of Money, where African American teenager Emmett Till was lynched.

Honestly coments like this should go against an oath to preserve democracy in this country and result in removal from office pending ethics investigation. This kind of behavior cannot stand

Mississippi has the largest black population of any state and the voter supression to match, but if Alabama can crush Roy Moore I imagine a black moderate democrat can do well enough against someone if they make enough gaffes.
