This whole things reminds me of a comment I once heard, criticizing the musician Watksy for doing a song about being broke while wearing an expensive backpack. I went on a whole rant about how stupid that comment was because poor people, especially broke musicians, consider backpacks an investment. You carry your life in that thing, cant afford to buy a new laptop when it falls and breaks because of cheap straps, cant afford to buy a new backpack every year when it wears down...
The same thing applies here, no? A poor person in politics is going to scrape and grind to get nice clothes so they can look presentable, right? If you wanna prove someone's not poor, find examples of them spending frivolously.
