• How to Change Main Drive from Old HDD to New SSD
    4 replies, posted
I recently added a new 1 TB SSD to my computer to replace my 5 and a half year old 1 TB HDD. I got everything copied over just fine and have it set up as the new boot drive. However, my desktop is still set to the original drive, and all my Steam games and stuff are still associated with the old versions. How can I change everything so the SSD is the main drive being accessed and the old drive is just there as backup? Do I have to physically disconnect it or something?
I had an issue like this once. I think I fixed it by changing drive letters of both hard drives but I'm not 100% sure
I unplugged the HDD and booted with just the SSD, it changed the drive letter to C and everything seems to be good now.
When you have both drives plugged in, go to your BIOS and change the boot device priority. There might even be two menus, one where you specify which type of device you want to boot from first (hard drive/USB/DVD drive), then a separate one just for ordering the hard drives.
You can set steam to a different drive if that helps with that issue.
