It ties to the points Jim makes in the video - with the abundance of memes like this, their failures are more likely to be seen as charming, rather than, well, as failures.
And both Valve and Bethesda are aware of it - Gabe's making jokes about the number 3; Todd's joking about bugs at E3.

I'm not criticizing anyone for liking these jokes, of course, and I am aware how petty and childish my argument is. Can't help but feel this way though
