https://www.newsweek.com/cuomo-amazon-headquarters-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-1222753?amp=1 Governor Andrew Cuomo is pushing back against the criticism of New York’s recent deal with Amazon to house its second headquarters, blaming “extreme conservatives and the socialists” for the public outcry.
Meanwhile Cortez is doing something actually constructive by recommending removal of columbus day and making election day a holiday instead.
And in Europe this would be just normal ( the protest )
And in other news, Cuomo is still shite.
What are the specifics on that? You guys have several types of elections right? What kind of elections would it be for and how often? I assume it's whenever there is an election and not a specific day every year.
Our elections for the President and Congress are set by law as the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, since 1845. It was chosen since back then people had to spend a whole day traveling to the county courthouse to vote and come back home, and the weekend was a religious period. Nowadays it's on a workday and only 8 states declare it a holiday. Some people want to make it a federal holiday to increase turnout.
Pretty sure she means for presidential and midterms, Federal voting holidays
Normally, states schedule their elections to be on the same day of the year as federal ones. Sometimes they're on a different year - we only have federal elections every other year, some states do stuff like governor on the same year, others do it on opposite years. And there's usually county-level stuff that are only in office for a single year, so everywhere I know of just has a single "election day" every year, unless there's some sort of emergency election. So "tuesday of the first full week in november" would be declared a holiday, which would cover basically everything, and whatever weird little places aren't using that already would probably switch.
If a successful company keeps getting handouts because, I assume the reasoning goes, that contributes to the country's economy, yet they rely on state welfare to keep their employees fed and sheltered, doesn't that just make them *ahem* parasites? Incentives should be for small markets that are still emerging and not for one of the richest companies on Earth.
Cuomo, yet another establishment Democrat that needs to go.
Sadly tired back in primary election with his only rival Nixon was defeated to take him down.
That's actually a really good idea.
