And one lead by democrats, who unless something really bad happens https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-16-races-still-too-close-to-call/
Democrats haven't made such a large House gain in a midterm since the 1974 elections after Watergate.
Stupidgate isn't even over with, once its over how fucked are the reds
this is the potential problem with gerrymandering, if the national lean changes enough it floods packed and cracked districts that are moderately safe
Once the Mississippi runoff is out of the way I should do at be able to award the 2018 coins to the closest FP prediction
Utah's also passing a ballot initiative to create in independent redistricting commission by a similarly small margin.
Lol, I remember people were initially disappointed in the results when they first started coming out. Some people still are, solely cause Beto and Gillum lost and the Democrats didn't also pull off a Senate takeover that every reasonable person knew was impossible.
I think a lot of people were hoping for a more total blowout, like republicans turned out in record numbers themselves, something like 5 million over 2014, so while democrats won, they didn't gain nearly as much ground as the gop did in 2010 I do hope this is the beginning of a trend though, it looks like we just had something north of 48% turnout which is practically off the charts. https://fivethirtyeight.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/SILVER-TRUMPBASE-1119-11.png?w=1150 If we have this turnout from now on that is absolutely a good sign for our democracy.
Good gravy that jump. That being said, still a bit jarring to see that turnouts have never gone above 50%, at least on the displayed info on the graph.
Two seats higher than 538's prediction on election night. No wonder the right is so desparate to make this seem inconsequential. Hopefully this momentum carries into 2020.
Your time is up wh*te boys
Stupidgate is more embarrassing than anything. With Watergate, it was the enterprising reporter discovering political corruption in Washington using their expertise as journalists. This is... I don't know... stupid? I would almost feel better if this administration wasn't so bad at covering things up.
Unless we take care of the actual underlying issues that keep getting the GOP elected we're going to see things go red again soon enough unfortunately. If we can fix the stupid bullshit they keep using to unfairly win though then maybe they can be replaced with a conservative party that's simply conservative and not actively regressive and malicious.
As long as Trump keeps reminding us who to vote for, we should be fine. If he shuts up, we may have a problem.
It sets a good tone as well, the 2020 and 2022 senate maps are quite markedly better than the 2018 one as dems won't be on the defensive.
And whoever controls the 2020 census process can reverse gerrymandering. 2020 is a BIG fucking year for elections. Ya'll thought 2016 was bad...
